I've noticed not many people on this site start their own posts, people are happy just to comment
I've looked at the last 50 and 29 of them were started by me, the last 100, 60 or so we're started by me, that's not counting the ones I've deleted
Why are people using this site?
I use it to ask questions, I suppose some use it to show off their knowledge, some to argue and insult!
It would be interesting to do a survey
I'm going to give it a rest for a while, I'm not going to put any more posts up
I get the impression that people are getting tired of them
I'm going to look elsewhere on other forums

Due to past experience, I believe people react negatively when they see one person shotgunning out a bunch of posts. I think it makes you look like you have an agenda rather than a desire to engage in constructive conversation. So... you can check out, like you mentioned or you could take a more balanced approach by contributing to other's posts with constructive comments and cut down on the number of "questions" you pose. It's up to you.Dusty52 wrote: ↑July 25th, 2018, 8:30 am I've noticed not many people on this site start their own posts, people are happy just to comment

Re: Posts in this Forum
I have time to participate in only limited number of posts. If there are enough interesting topics, I don't feel the need to start my own threads.
Also, most of the things people are currently discussing here, have been discussed in some form before. Let's see after two or three years if you still have so many questions to ask that you keep dominating the number of new posts.

I appreciate and read many of your posts. I don't post much anymore, partly because this new design feels so impersonal. There was a time when you could see everyone logged in and when your friends were on here, too, though you knew some were hidden. Most of my friends on here have moved on and I have little left to offer that I haven't already shared over the years, but if you're curious, feel free to check out a topic I created so that I can quickly reference what I have researched, studied and shared over the years with everyone here:

Re: Posts in this Forum
I'm not necessarily saying that your topics have been disussed earlier, it was a general comment.
Anyway, sometimes the previous discussions are hard to find. Sometimes the viewpoint is a bit different. Sometimes it was so long ago that many people weren't even here then.
In another thread, I gave the advice to make a search before posting something which might have been discussed earlier. I even suggested that resurrecting an old thread might be better option than starting a new. But this depends on the case. If your viewpoint is different or lot of time has passed, there is nothing wrong with starting a new thread.
And as you have probably already noticed, there are some topics that are all the time under discussion in several threads. Some things are debated over and over again.

Re: Posts in this Forum
I have an agenda, which I think is apparent to some forum members.
1.) making Latter-day Saints aware of their divinely mandated responsibilities to study, uphold and abide by the principles of the US Constitution in the tradition of the Founding Fathers, or as the Founders meant it to be understood, and to understand and support the proper role of government according to gospel principles. This involves promoting awareness of what I believe is a doctrinal imperative or divine mandate to learn and abide by the principles of the US Constitution as He who established it intends it to be understood.
2.) making people aware of the conspiracy to overthrow the freedoms of all lands, nations, and countries and establish a single global government. The plan to establish a global government includes gaining control over and making a shambles of America and destroying what is left of our constitutional republic government and turning our nation into a highly centralized socialist state.
My agenda is to help prepare that remnant that will help restore the Constitution after the "CLEANSING", although I rarely mention the cleansing. People, especially Latter-day Saints, have gotta learn about these things, even if they are not prophetic priorities. Most topics that I have initiated are for this purpose. I rarely spend time on topics unrelated to my personal agenda.

Re: Posts in this Forum
I think your posting frequency is totes adorbs Dusty52. However, you should probably check to see whether there are existing threads on these topics first (if you don't already) - Durzan has a great "forum advice" thread going. Apparently inho already pointed this out. Perhaps consider that many of us look at "Latest Posts" to see what the hot topics are. All of your posts are certainly welcome - I think the only feedback folks are trying to give is please do your best to revive a thread when appropriate.
I appreciate lunbaek's agenda - and his willingness to be straightforward about his agenda. I have tried to be transparent on my agenda as well. I am here to share, to teach, and to learn...and sometimes even fellowship!

Were all different people and some are more comfortable posing questions than others.
When I post a question it's usually a dead topic and doesn't get many replies. I like reading and responding more. Questions are not always easy to formulate in a forum format.

Re: Posts in this Forum
Maybe it’s just me but I usually try to socialize on forums with similar polite manners as I would in person. So if I begin a new thread topic, I feel responsible to at least thank or acknowledge each response. This is why I don’t begin many threads - takes time and effort to be polite like that. But I imagine if someone talked to me in person, it’s rude to not acknowledge them. So, again, I’d rather search for a related topic (there are usually several) rather than start yet another thread on the same topic. And that way, more preexisting info is accessed.
Why come here? Million dollar question! It varies for me - but mostly to connect with others.

Starting your own thread is putting yourself out there even more so than participating in the discussion. The majority of people won't do it, the majority of us are consumers not producers. So, my question for you Dusty is how did you become so fearless in expressing your thoughts and ideas and questions?

Re: Posts in this Forum
I think some people really worry about others being lied to, led astray, or getting philosophy of man or harmful teaching. We're not trying to bash anyone, stomp on hopes, or hurt anyone, nor show off.
So not everyone here has bad intentions. Some people really want to help people. Missionary work is about loving people (with giving them truth; this part often gets left out of that phrase). It's good to study it out and pray with real intent for gospel answers. It feels like plenty of people put up half answers or worse, but not many really try to put up an answer as inspired as they feel they could do.

I am a seeker of truth!
I'm hoping the truth will set me free
I was virtually born into the church, it was not something I chose, it was thrust upon me, the way of thinking and looking at the world and other people, I've had no choice with any of that I was raised Mormon, it's my whole mindset
At times I've felt straightjacketed
I've wanted to be free of it all, but I don't know any different
I've thought of suicide in the past but decided against it because it wouldn't free me from it
So I've decided to try embrace it and try and make sense of it all, my posts are all pieces of a giant jigsaw
I've lived most of my life trying to live the gospel on my own, I don't have to anymore
I've got you people on this forum, I post to try and understand what I'm thinking and why I am doing things
Up until now it's been generally positive
I hope this continues
I hope this begins to answer your question
I post out of necessity I can no longer do it on my own, I need this community

That's awesome. I have appreciated this community as well. I am not good at small talk but I like thinking about how reality fits together too. Please don't commit suicide we do need each other, it is not good to be alone.Dusty52 wrote: ↑July 28th, 2018, 7:48 amThank you for your questionJuliet wrote: ↑July 28th, 2018, 12:34 am Starting your own thread is putting yourself out there even more so than participating in the discussion. I was born into the church too. My out of the box mind takes me off the ark once in a while but I always keep swimming back.

I think we all need something here. How we go about it varies from person to person. Take me for instance. I'm pretty shy to start a new thread, so I admire your possession of whatever I'm lacking there.Dusty52 wrote: ↑July 28th, 2018, 7:48 amThank you for your questionJuliet wrote: ↑July 28th, 2018, 12:34 am Starting your own thread is putting yourself out there even more so than participating in the discussion. I do however feel compelled to combat trolling for whatever reason. Perhaps premortally you were given the mission to start threads and I was given the mission to combat the forces of darkness ... of the Interwebs.

We all post to make sure everyone knows how false everyone else's preaching is and to tell them that the Holy Ghost will only testify of our particular view of the truth.

The truth dispels darkness all on its own and doesn't require the assassination of someone else's view to float.

So we say, and yet here we are, years later, doing the same thing as always. And people are changing their minds, leaving behind their old false opinions for newfound truths. And others are leaving the opposite false opinions for newfound truths that were others' previous false opinions. And both sides claim the "truth", how it dispels darkness on its own. Both sides claim the spirit. Both sides claim the correct interpretation of scripture.
We're a collection of people who have a desire to build zion, but we're killing each other mentally over this doctrine and that principle and boldly calling out everyone but ourselves as a false prophet.

I continually learn all the time
As I begin to compose a narrative about how I view a doctrine or gospel truth I use my life experiences and also reading other people's ideas, views etc
My narrative evolves over time, constantly adding to it and taking away
As I do this it would be good to acknowledge the contributions of others as I include them in my story!
