What is Missing the Mark?

Post by XEmilyX »

What constitutes as hitting the mark or being on the Mark?
What are some good questions to identify someone who is Missing the Mark?
How do you know you're hitting the mark or target correctly?

My friend is studying deep doctrine things and getting into areas that are also not supported by doctrine yet. And is on a Sandy foundation.
Which is why I ask these questions.

The actual greek definition of SIN is to miss the mark. The mark is jesus Christ. Anytime we do ANYTHING outside of Christ (what he would do or be) we sin. You know if you are hitting the mark, because you will receive fruits of the spirit. Peace, Love Joy, etc. And you may even bear fruits of the spirit (visions, healings, etc) if you wrestle to obtain a witness. It's good to ask questions. its okay to question others who are giving you instruction. We should do all we can, and then take it to God.

Feast upon the words of Christ. .....the more we know His words, the less likely we will be to err.

I would say if you are studying it out by reason and faith then it is NOT missing the mark, no matter how 'deep' it has been labeled.

2 Nephi 31
17 Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.

20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

21 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.
There's the mark, as well as the answer to the question: "does deep doctrine exist?".
