Making sure my Prayers go past the ceiling!

Post by Dusty52 »

I have started a new morning routine of study and prayers, admittedly I haven't done it for quite a while but I didn't feel that my prayer went beyond the ceiling. I know I must get into the habit, I've heard it takes 7 days to form a habit anyway back to my prayers, I've prayed in the past and at times I've felt something but on those occasions I was desperately in need. I want to have a normal, regular prayer habit, but how do I take the mundanity out of it and make it more meaningful?

Pray for those under Satan's power to repent and be healed through the atonement of Christ. But pray to be invisible to the enemy first so you don't get backlash.

In other words, if you are not desperately in need, pray for those who are.

Communing with the Lord involves quiet time with him. I like to sit in a nice, comfortable, quiet part of the house while everyone else is still asleep. I will spend time listening to songs of praise, singing along, reading the Book of Mormon, and pondering questions. For me, praying isn't just the four step prayer method I used to teach as a missionary. For me, it is a greeting. I talk to Father in heaven and if I have a question, I will ask and then ponder my question and what the answer might be. I wait in the quietude for an answer. Sometimes I wait a few minutes, sometimes a few hours. It's ok to just kneel there or sit there and just be still. This is how discipline is developed when communing with the Lord. It opens up the opportunity to communicate with heaven. The more time you spend in supplication and communion, the greater your chances of receiving personal revelation, and of course the less time you spend in idle activities.

I pray as though I’m having a conversation with God. I have pauses after questions and comments where I listen for answers. I enjoy the feel of a conversation. When I think about it, it IS actually a conversation, we just have to listen better than we do during conversations with mortals. ;)

I find it best to just have a chat with God.
Forget the shopping lists of blessings you're after, and just hang out with him.
Tell him about your new shoes, how you feel about Brexit, which posters on LDSFF annoy you the most etc.
He wants to hear about your day and what you've been up to. He's really interested in your plans and how you intend to go about achieving them. He's also very pleased when you tell him how much you appreciate his activity in your life. Tell him what a great job he did with the creation of the earth and how much you like it.
Pray like this and you'll get to know each other pretty well, and the ceiling will just become something that's held up by the walls.

I am not sure complaining to God about people from this forum is normally allowed...an English accent must cover a multitude of sins. That's ok because my exemplary posts cover mine.

This has been one of the hardest behaviors for me to change for some reason. Maybe it's just my squirrel brain, but I usually wind up impatient and frustrated. I think I'm slowly getting there, though. "Spend time with the Lord" is how Kari Jobe describes it. I think that's what's been really helpful to me, is to re-frame it like that. Slow down, and enjoy His company.
