The Formula for a Happy Life

Post by Dusty52 »

We all want a happy life!
I know I do
but why do I make my life so complicated?
I am not a happy person, I struggle with lots of things
Yet we have been given the formula for a happy life!
Living the gospel, but it isn't easy, why does it seem so hard?
Any thoughts?

Happiness is a decision.
Decide to be happy.

Listen to some Jordan Peterson videos on YouTube. He posits that while happiness is nice, having a purpose is what we seek.

If you have a purpose that you believe in, you can deal with unhappiness. If you are "happy" but have no purpose, what a shallow, and truly sad existence.

There is a difference between happiness and joy. The world will tell you that whatever feels good also will make you happy. We know from the scriptures and true happiness is actually called joy and it comes by obedience to the commandments of the Lord

A few scriptures:

2 Nephi 2:25 Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.

Alma 41:10 Do not suppose, because it has been spoken concerning restoration, that ye shall be restored from sin to happiness. Behold, I say unto you, wickedness never was happiness.

Moroni 10:22 And if ye have no hope ye must needs be in despair; and despair cometh because of iniquity.

Chances are if you are not right with God you are not experiencing true happiness and it is worth every ounce of effort to repent. One of the greatest gifts you can experience is a clear conscience through the atonement. This being said there are also individuals who are doing there best but who suffer from depression and may need to be approached with professional / medical help, guidance, and counsel. Talk with your bishop if you have not yet, he can help you.

One thought on why it is hard. If you are living in sin you are in Satan's power. You have to abandon the things that give him power. I believe it is actually much harder to not live the gospel than to live it.
