I'm giving a talk next sunday. The topic is :
Joy in the Journey of becoming a righteous priesthood holder

So, I'm quickly looking for ideas, thoughts, stories.
What brings joy?
What brings the opposite?
What should a priesthood holder do?
What have you done in the priesthood that brought you joy?
etc,

Hey, check this post out.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, I think what I said in that post might give you a few things you can start with and go from there. I believe part of what I say in that post is true, I think part of it is partial truth, maybe part of it is false.

Living in Christ brings joy to me. It sounds like a very vague answer, but to me , living in Christ is living in the Spirit, it's feeling that spirit every day. It's hard to do, but if I can have it most days, I feel joy. Usually forcing myself to read scriptures INSTEAD of something else I want to do UNTIL I begin to feel the Spirit does the trick. It's like i have to force my body into submission, eventually I am reading with real intent and the Spirit comes.

I confess, the topic of Priesthood is one I am seeking to understand. I believe it requires much to have true priesthood power based on my studies, but I await revelation to actually testify. Hopefully you can help me once you've prepared your talk.

Personal opinion take it with a grain of salt, but I would start with what is the priesthood - the authority to act in God's name. How do we act in His name? We must learn who he is. How do we learn who He is? By searching the scriptures and learning to follow the Holy Spirit. Why the Holy Spirit? because the Holy Spirit is God in Spirit (in purpose). How do we learn and follow the Holy Spirit? Through faith in Christ and believing His promises that if we remember Him always that we will always have His Spirit with us. What else? Repent of all the tiems we have rejected the Spirit by not picking up that pieace of trash, or not saying hi to that person, or not turning off that t.v. show. This increases Faith. and then allows us to follow the Spirit better. Rinse, wash, repeat. When we do this we Have the Spirit with us which will tell us all things which to do and we develope more faith in Christ which allows us to move mountains and proclaim blessing with power and authority (from the Spirit) and we change and become more HOly and sanctified with out spot. The Joy is learning taht in the end EVERYTHING that happens to us, if we are following the Spirit will be for our good and we will have confidence. We won't fear death, but rejoice in Christ because we know that no matter what happens to us we are doing the Lord's will and if we die in the Spirit (following the Spirit) then we know we died in the Lord's hands and it was to bring us to Eternal Life in the way that he has planned for us. For his work and glory is to bring to pass immortality and eternal life of man. Therefore everything he does is for that purpose.
Good luck!

I'm not a male but I believe that as a man understands what the priesthood really is and who he is as a man and the innate power and influence those two combined (being male and priesthood) have in his life and his family, church family and community, he then can learn to operate in a manner that brings him great joy and satisfaction. His confidence and self-esteem will also increase.

The world wants to diminish men but the priesthood wants to enlighten and elevate men. Men are amazing and have incredible potential and power for good. When a man rises above the worldly expectation (with the aid of the priesthood) then he becomes a slave to nothing and this brings joy and freedom.

Joy on the journey is letting go of everything the world expects you to be and becoming who you really are.

Think of what the world attitude towards men is. Contrast that to what God's attitude towards a man is. God has given men the opportunity to move mountains and separate waters and perform miracles. This is the potential of men and just realizing this is joy on the journey.

I will also add that a husband had incredible influence towards his wife and has the ability to chart the course for his children. This is very important for men to realize. They literally can save their families if only they first realize who they are and the power they have in the position they hold. I believe the priesthood is given to men because it's not only fitting for the natural influence and role they have as men but also to help them know how important they are.

This may be sappy, but I think true love brings joy. The D&C says that the powers of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven. Does that denote relationship? What other relationships are to become inseparably connected?

On a light note, you can be a perfect saint and if you aren't getting enough B12 in your diet it really puts a damper on happiness. Perhaps the nutrients in our bodies are inseparably connected with the well being of our soul?

Who thought up this title?

We don't seem to have proper preaching or doctrinal exposition anymore.

When I heard the topic title, I was not super happy. I don't know who came up with it. But I do intend to share doctrine in that framework to the best of my ability to figure out how.

Another thought, which I think is more important that anything anyone has said. Perhaps you've already done it, but if not, most importantly just Follow the Spirit and ask the Lord what he would have you teach to help them most in regards to this topic and follow the Spirit no matter what.

Well I was thinking, if you need ideas think about what came up in your scripture study. Bring out verses that came to your mind while reading the Book of Mormon and other scriptures. There's always something in there that will be applicable because Heavenly Father knows what you need and gave you those thoughts while reading.

I'm sure you will do a fine job.
