Difficult Days Ahead and Prophetic counsel

Post by drtanner »

From President Nelson in 2011:
Why do we need such resilient faith? Because difficult days are ahead. Rarely in the future will it be easy or popular to be a faithful Latter-day Saint. Each of us will be tested. The Apostle Paul warned that in the latter days, those who diligently follow the Lord “shall suffer persecution.” That very persecution can either crush you into silent weakness or motivate you to be more exemplary and courageous in your daily lives.
Available to each of you brethren and sisters are blessings obtained through the power of the holy Melchizedek Priesthood. These blessings can change the circumstances of your lives, in matters such as health, companionship of the Holy Ghost, personal relationships, and opportunities for the future.
The greatest of all the blessings of the priesthood are bestowed in holy temples of the Lord
You faithful Saints do not have to fight life’s battles alone. Think of that! The Lord declared, “I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.”17 Later came this promise to His faithful people: “I, the Lord, would fight their battles, and their children’s battles, and their children’s children’s, … to the third and fourth generation

Let's all hang in there.

Remember that our kingdom was never meant to be in this life, but actually in the life thereafter. We're just behind enemy lines right now.

If the above quote was meant for the LDS community in general, I would say that as a whole we have gone out of our way to live in that "Great and Spacious Building" beginning over 120 plus years ago.
And today we are high up in it looking out of the glass windows right along with the rest of the inhabitants of that building. Wherein are we different? Are we the "humble" followers of Jesus Christ? Or rather are we not " lifted up in pride above all nations". " Yea none doeth good, no not one, except the humble followers of Jesus Christ, nevertheless in many instances they ( the humble followers of Christ) do err, because they follow the precepts of men"......

"But there is one kind of latter-day destruction that has always sounded to me more personal than public, more individual than collective—a warning, perhaps more applicable inside the Church than outside it. The Savior warned that in the last days even those of the covenant, the very elect, could be deceived by the enemy of truth. If we think of this as a form of spiritual destruction, it may cast light on another latter-day prophecy. Think of the heart as the figurative center of our faith, the poetic location of our loyalties and our values; then consider Jesus’s declaration that in the last days “men’s hearts [shall fail] them.”

The encouraging thing, of course, is that our Father in Heaven knows all of these latter-day dangers, these troubles of the heart and soul, and has given counsel and protections regarding them.

In light of that, it has always been significant to me that the Book of Mormon, one of the Lord’s powerful keystones in this counteroffensive against latter-day ills..

We will be persecuted BUT that does not mean we need pushed over. Stand our ground on things and have a gun just in case the persecution becomes dangerous.

In regards to many, even the elect being deceived; I have been thinking about how important it is to work hard. Because, when you spend too much time in dreaming mode, or even being spiritual, you can be thrown off course. It takes grounded, day to day work to allow common sense to help organize spiritual revelation. I remember Paul said he showed his faith by his works. Some spiritual people claim revelation about so many things but can't get their shoes tied for the day. I think there is practical wisdom in using revelation to get hard physical work done. We used to be spirits and could learn all we needed through spiritual means. There is something really important about having a body and working for your daily bread that teaches us common sense spiritual principles that cannot be learned any other way.

Sometimes I wonder if we as Mormons focus so much in making it to the other side of the veil that we forget to bring heaven to this side of the veil. I know I want to escape sometimes and I have to remember that is not why I am here.
