Man's Wisdom Can't Teach Me Spiritual Things

Post by Craig Johnson »

First Corinthians Chapter 2

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Not to be argumentative but you just quoted man.

“The kingdom of God is within you,” as it is within each of us all. Sometimes we speak or write of spiritual truths - anciently and now, but it ALL comes through us measly human beings. We are instruments of God - imperfect as we are - that’s what we have to work with in dealing with God and spiritual things.

Yer right. But, it makes a difference that I am quoting an inspired prophet, an apostle of the Lord. Also I can test his words and have them verified (or not) by the Spirit, just as I can with every other thing I read, hear or encounter. If I am going to learn a spiritual truth I have to seek that confirmation, or I really have not learned a spiritual thing. Some things I take for granted when, for instance, I am reading a bank of scripture and the entire time I am reading I feel the Spirit and I have my mind opened, although I sought spiritual information and prayed to understand what I was reading, at times, I actually get more than I requested.

I really like how you put that, Craig. And I agree about testing words, studying with prayer and being open to learning. Then the Spirit can help in amazing ways!

It's easier to know my tuning fork is in tune when there is another with the same tone. I really appreciate the words of men and women when they ring true and my spirit rejoices. They increase my appetite for more light and truth. I have found such words in the most humble people.

I agree. Of course I don’t look to any other person as if a god, but I appreciate that each oerson has something valuable to share or teach.
