On Both Sides of the veil

Post by drtanner »

This was an interesting commission during the concluding remarks of President Nelson:
Our message to the world is simple and sincere: we invite all of God’s children on both sides of the veil to come unto their Savior, receive the blessings of the holy temple, have enduring joy, and qualify for eternal life

Was there any significance in inviting God's children on both sides of the veil?

He also said:
Eventual exaltation requires our complete fidelity now to covenants we make and ordinances we receive in the house of the Lord
I can think of no greater way than to pattern our life after the savior than standing in place of individuals for ordinances. This is one of the few times where we can do something for someone that it is literally impossible for them to do themselves.

Hmm, I think the more we're tied to his work the more thin the veil is. So if we want good things to happen then we can go do temple work, and family history. There are other ways of doing God's work too but I think it helps if we 'do' something, rather than be satisfied with past victories.

Someone in sacrament today the speaker told us a story about the veil being very thin when they were trying to get to the temple the first time. It was really inspiring and the Spirit was strong. It's really amazing how blessed we are to have temple work and how real it is. If we want more of God's help then we can get involved with temple work.

I also noticed his comment and find it potent with meaning. Here are a few quotes that I find valuable:
Brother Widtsoe reaffirmed that ‘those who give themselves with all their might and mind to this [family history] work receive help from the other side. Whoever seeks to help those in the other side receives help in return in all the affairs of life’” (Boyd K. Packer, The Holy Temple, o

Spiritual Protection

“Do you young people want a sure way to eliminate the influence of the adversary in your life? Immerse yourself in searching for your ancestors” (Richard G. Scott, “The Joy of Redeeming the Dead,” Oct. 2012 general conference).

“I promise you will be protected against the intensifying influence of the adversary. As you participate in and love this holy work, you will be safeguarded in your youth and throughout your lives” (David A. Bednar, “The Hearts of the Children Shall Turn,” Oct. 2011 general conference

There is a power in doing ordinance work, and a necessity in us participating in the ordinance work. We are obligated far more than we recognize, and the requirement in doing the work is far greater than we like to believe.
Becoming a Savior on Mount Zion is a powerful idea to ponder on and pray about while in the Temple. It is not a "gimme" by doing a few ordinances for others.
Go to the Temple often and ponder and pray about this. Ask the Lord to teach you about it. Please.
