Until the Church takes on watching TV the way it takes on looking at porn you may as well preach to a wall than expect young people who, at best, spend 3 hours in Church on Sunday to maintain Gospel principles. At least discernment or analysis must be taught. If you understand film psychology then TV viewing will not be as carcinogenic on the mind.

All movies and TV programs have messages that are conveyed in words, color, music, camera angle, symbolism, etc. We need to be educated on how to spot the messages.

What I have observed is that emotion clouds everything, slows or stops rational thought and elicits a predictable and steerable response. Information sources that present emotionally inflammatory subject material over and over seem to me to be highly suspect of being part of the propaganda machine, whether the material presented is true or not; Pavlov and his dogs.

Sometimes propagandists counter those ideas that run contrary to the propaganda point by overwhelming the subjects with sheer volume of information, as well as making sure that the last point presented was a reinforcement of the propaganda point. All other viewpoints are lost in the confusion. I think this is why we see some of the absurd and blatantly false stories pushed over and over, to make sure that the propaganda story is the last one presented, and remembered.

So, since this forum and the internet itself is part of the media machine, how do we identify and combat the propaganda presented to us even though we are choosing our own sites and content?
