I don't know why, I just find this funny.
The Swede was thrilled after hauling in an enormous 7ft halibut fish -and showed his enthusiasm by jumping in the freezing water to pose for pictures with it.

The 24 year old was on a fishing trip with friends Jonathan Jansson and Martin Bamberg when he hooked the mammoth halibut, the world's biggest species of flatfish .

It took more than an hour for Erik to outperform the fish, and when he weight it it was a colossal 16 stones.

I remember when international chess was a big thing. The height of the Cold War. Some of the greatest minds of America and the Soviet Union, sitting right across from one another. The atmosphere tense. Knight takes queen. Check... nail biting stuff.

Nowadays it's been reduced to this. Radio tooth implants and, well, this. (I'd like to point any similarity between the names Niemand and Niemann is just coincidence.)
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/ ... -explained
What is going on in top-level chess?
Allegations of cheating – including wild speculation involving vibrating anal beads – have rocked chess to its core. A fortnight ago, the world champion, Magnus Carlsen, pulled out of a tournament for the first time in his career and then, on Monday he stunned the sport again by resigning a game after just one move. Both times Carlsen was faced with the same opponent, the 19-year-old American Hans Niemann.
One theory doing the rounds on the internet, popularised by Elon Musk, is that Niemann used vibrating anal beads to help him.

Chess has been analyzed to the point where a brain with an excellent memory of hundreds of variations of half a dozen openings, can win simply from memory. The level of concentration is intense. A fly buzzing a player can cause him to lose. A recent game had Magnus Carlson taking time to make a move. The resulting train of thought is that he had his moves preplanned and took the time to distract his opponent. He won. Not until the game was over and the moves analyzed, did people decide that he knew what he was going to do the entire time. Humans no longer win the computers every time like they used to. Many computer software engines are rated over 3000.

Let's hear it for trans icons (F2M) Marion Morrison and Shirley Crabtree, who transitioned into John Wayne and Big Daddy respectively. They may have been assigned female names at birth but that never held them back.

Less funny: in the same place of the history of the church, same teachings, the next two pages, it says that Christ is the second comforter and we are to see his face and learn from him face to face.

Interestingly enough, Shirley was once a boy's name (I forget when that changed) - and Marion is the male version of the female name Marian (rather like Francis and Frances).

When I worked in the IT department of Apache County, Arizona, my boss's name was Shirley. I imagine he had his share of fights growing up. He is a big guy, though, so somebody had to have a death wish to challenge him.

So I had to look it up, and found this on wikipedia:
Shirley was originally a male name, but its use in Charlotte Brontë's novel Shirley (1849) established it as a female name.
