Does it mean like The Waltons or Mayberry? Outdated family values?

Don't choose a party, follow your own pathYmarsakar wrote: ↑June 6th, 2023, 4:21 am With Dominion, your "choice" is insured.
Niemand wrote: ↑June 4th, 2023, 4:34 pmIt is worth pointing out that when the World Economic Forum and Bilderbergers invite major politicians to their gatherings, they always pick both the government party and the opposition. In the case of the USA, the system is designed so neither party is ever out of power at some level and no third party can oust either of them.
Many western countries have some variant of this system. Liberals and Labor in Australia. Fianna Fail and Fine Gael in Ireland. Labout and Conservatives in the UK etc etc.
It is of course easier to buy off two parties than three, and two parties gives more impression of choice than one.

I used to think Pres. Nelson was merely moving deckchairs around on the Titanic. Now it seems he wants to take us down there on a cheap submarine after it's sunk.

I've heard people say "old timer's disease" but they were just being funny.
I'm not quite finished with the video yet, but one I've heard a lot is choir-practor instead of chiropractor.
Interesting about butt naked vs buck naked. I think buck is the one I heard when I was a kid. Stark naked works, but doesn't have the confusion of which came first - butt or buck.

Made me think of the literally dozens on this forum whose priesthood is loose. They speak of loosing their priesthood. Makes me want to send them a wrench to tighten it.Silver Pie wrote: ↑June 27th, 2023, 5:36 pm That was interesting. I think I'm going to subscribe to his channel.

Great video, Fred. Yes, I think we use these regularly. One other factor is that a lot of people have speech defects such as aphasia where words get jumbled up (spoonerisms) or mispronounced. The people who do these things are not always uneducated. Spoonerism is named after an academic at Oxford.
A very common eggcorn is "straightjacket", rather than "straitjacket", since the gh became silent. (In some areas of Scotland they would still pronounce it.)
Yes, loose and lose are frequently confused. And barely anyone knows the difference between discrete and discreet.

Yep.
And "weary" instead of "wary" is something I see a lot. Instead of making me think they are careful about trusting something, it makes me think that the thing just makes them tired.

"Birthing" and "birthed" are my trigger word.
Berthing is something ships do. Women give birth or bear children. No one is birthed, they're born.

A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: ''Ugh, that's the ugliest baby I've ever seen!'' The woman walks to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: ''The driver just insulted me!'' The man says: ''You go up there and tell him off. Go on, I'll hold your monkey for you.''
