CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Two Illinois lawmakers and an advocacy group introduced changes to prevent plastic pollution. One of those proposals is a shopping bag tax.

"You know, I'm standing here holding a plastic bag, and I'm very embarrassed to actually be doing that because normally I bring my own bags," said Paula Havlik.

House Representatives Ann Williams and Kelly Cassidy filed House Bill 3335 on Saturday.

It would provide a carryout bag fee of $0.10 at retail establishments. That money would go to various research and environmental funds.

Great idea, as the likely outcome is a sturdy paper bag, which is where many gyrations have ended up, anyway.

When this seven-year phase of the United States concludes, it will be with a second Great American Eclipse. This time, the total solar eclipse will come up from Mexico in the southwest, and it will exit the United States through Maine in the northeast. It will be as if God, Himself, will have marked the country with a big X—all centered on the New Madrid fault zone. This X will also be straight over a little place in Illinois called “Little Egypt”, due to the circumstances of a famine that took place in the 1800s. ...
