Adoption
Anyone here ever done an adoption? I know there is LDS services which has an adoption program but it seems difficult to qualify - documented infertility etc.
Anyone know the process and any info?
It's something that has been on my mind for a while and I have done generic searches but still don't really know much about it.
Thanks

Re: Adoption
The church doesnt provide full adoption services anymore. For US members here is what the website says:
We provide services to single expectant parents and prospective adoptive families. While we no longer function as a full-service adoption agency, we do continue to offer many other services, including consultation for adoptive couples, screening and registration on an adoption matching website, and counseling for single expectant parents.
https://providentliving.lds.org/lds-fam ... s?lang=eng" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have friends that have found it very difficult to adopt, without paying huge amounts of $$.

Re: Adoption
Look into adopting through your states foster care program. I fostered for many years and there are thousands of great babies and kids who would love someone to want them. It isn't as difficult as you might think and doesn't cost hardly anything.

Re: Adoption
My wife and I are adoptive parents. We began as foster parents to teen aged boys. Apply at your local foster care services. You'll undergo lots of background checks, testing, training, etc. and once you're done, you have the opportunity to be introduced to children where you can get to know them and decide which you will take home. I think the process is the same for newborns or infants.

Re: Adoption
LDS Social Services are to the gospel and the LDS Church what a kazoo is to a philharmonic orchestra.

Re: Adoption
Thanks for the replies.
Fiannan, I am married and have a son - don't need AI or IVF thanks. Adoption is just something that has come to my mind and so I wanted to research it out just in case.

Re: Adoption
Catholic Adoption services help in these areas. AS I'm Catholic I wouldn't expect any difficulties on my part, I am unsure how they would react to a Mormon asking about such stuff. However, Catholic Charities have an active arm in regards to adoption from my understanding.Melissa wrote:Anyone here ever done an adoption? I believe it costs somewhere in the range of 5000-6000 USD currently for the Charity work itself, plus additional funds in regards to the country.
Here is a link to the fees.

Note, there are catholic charities for many states, this particular one is for MD, but it lists fees and other expectations that you might want to see.

Re: Adoption
My daughter has adopted 10 children, 1 from Uzbekistan, 1 from the Ukraine, and 8 from Bulgaria, She also has triplets that are her natural children. This is the link to her adoption blog. You can contact her through the blog site and maybe she can help you with your questions.
