I thanked for your linger longer comment. +1, shadow.

Some light fare without excessive cost or prep would be nice. A veggie fruit tray and small sandwiches.

Shadow, have you been born again?

Zowieink wrote:Keeping the Sabbath Day holy is one of the hot topics. There is a power point that is to be shown, from the Stake Presidency who received it from SLC. Don't remember it being 2 hours long. Ours is going to be given as a 5th Sunday.

Other thing is a new policy being tried out in the Phoenix SE valley area. Wards to be reduced to 400ish, depending on active priesthood holders. Stakes limited to 8 wards. 4 wards in each building. 5 wards in a growth situation with a 2.5 hour block. The stakes here have to put a plan in place by Dec 1. The Brethren expect to make 4 to 5 new stakes which will fill all the buildings in that area with 4 wards per building with 4 or 5 buildings being joint stake buildings until some remodel work gets done to house them.

Once this is done, it will cascade up into the Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert area and the far NW area Peoria, Vistancia, Glendale, etc. Phoenix, will be the last area done. At some point this will move to the SLC valley starting in the growth areas. No new buildings will be designed in North American until 2017, unless all the existing buildings have 4 wards, etc. or something really significant causes change (plague, earthquake, government collapse, etc.)
A similar thing is happening here in Mexico. Cannot vouch for the 2.5 hour block but I CAN vouch for church buildings being refurbished for 3 to 4 wards. The Church has already started selling off some underutilized chapels back to the MX gov't.

My funny/sad food story from my Primary teacher days ------

It was a Super Saturday for all teachers and Primary kids. There was a huge bribe -- the giant Costco muffins. I don't remember how many times it was pounded into the kids that there would be Costco muffins. Costco is very near us, and I'm pretty sure most people knew that they come in 3 favors, banana, blueberry, and chocolate-chocolate-chip.

Well, the time came to serve the muffins. They had been cut in half, every child was told to only take one of the half-muffins, and unknown at the time, ALL the chocolate ones had been reserved in the kitchen. This was discovered when some helpful ladies walked in on a select group of women and children (need I say, the Primary Presidency and families?) eating their fill of chocolate muffins. Yeah, it's a small thing, but it's amazing the way the word got around, and people were miffed. It wasn't a good day.

Don't know anything about a 2 hour sacrament, but I know that the combined 5th Sunday lesson is on Provident Living.

Chocolatize!!!! Man, I'm getting leary of those people in Dallas...

Spent 3 years in nursery. We had play time, snack time, lesson time. Sammy was a young boy who never said anything. One Sunday during snack time, we passed out the snack. All of a sudden, Sammy yelled, "That's nasty!"

Well, I didn't eat that snack...

I asked my Mom and she only remembers me being born once but it was a C-section so it may not of even counted according to some religionists.

They really muffed that one up.
Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode.

I really don't want an anatomical tour of any part of your family tree, I was just asking based on Rewcox' comment earlier.

My youngest son asked how how babies were born, I told him about the natural way and also about C-section. He said," You better tell me I was born by C-section." I told him he was born naturally and he ran to his room crying. ( just thought you might be interested in this Obrien) :D

Got a postcard in the mail from my Stake saying W. Christopher Wadell (Presiding Bishopric) is presiding at the special Stake Conf this Sunday. And it says "All Are Welcome, All Are Needed." Not sure what it will be about, but it is something pretty pressing it seems. Now I'm really wondering what it is about. Very out of the ordinary.

Very unconventional. Where aborts do you live?

The worst food poisoning I ever had was from a Mexican restaurant in 1975. I still go there today, only got poisoned once.
I like hanging around and socializing.
I go early for the same reason. Same when I'm visiting Utah. I'm usually the first one there.

Lizzy60 wrote:My ward boundaries were recently rearranged (I am in TX, so this doesn't happen often) and the first Sunday that we met together, the Bishopric announced that the third hour, 11:00 to noon, would be a get-to-know-each-other session, instead of Pri, YW, RS and PH. We met in the cultural hall and chatted. There was no food involved, which was a huge oversight. It was easy to tell that most people just wanted to get home for lunch, especially the kids. It would have been very easy to send out an email announcing a pot luck lunch, or have the leadership purchase some simple snacks and orange juice. There really is something about "breaking bread" together to start forging friendships.
Yes. We are having dinners, singles dinner (me), ward Thanksgiving dinner, ward Christmas dinner, and more I hope.

As to our Sunday yesterday, our joint meeting (one hour, mercifully not two) was spent on "using the internet to access lds.org."
That was it. I don't think there could really be two people in the entire ward who didn't already know all that stuff. And a whole lot more.
Oh, well. We sang a song and had two prayers, so that part was good.
But certainly nothing about the call out.

Rewcox, just out of curiosity, what part of Texas do you live in? I'm in the Austin/Round Rock area.

I'm not real familiar with Texas, but I couldn't understand why he posted that. Sarcasm, irony or whatnot.

It turned out to be a message in response to what has been happening because of the recent policy change on children of LGBT, etc. The message was basically, about the scripture in D&C 117 about coveting the drop rather than focusing on the weightier matters, and also that if we do not choose Jesus Christ, it doesn't matter what we choose. Just basically a reminder that we don't understand everything, but we should remember who the policy change is from (i.e. not from the Brethren but from Christ himself). So, its pretty much what I suspected. I am very happy to have heard the message, and that they care enough to respond swiftly to what has been happening and not wait for another 5 months until the next stake conference. I hope that they continue to have swift responses when things happen, and not wait for things to fester among the membership.

That ^^^ "policy" was announced shortly after fall GC. If openness and understanding were the goals, it could have been announced there, much like the policy change lowering missionary ages...

The policy was leaked, not announced. And no, the church didn't leak it.

True dat, Shadow. That DOES bring to mind something about secret deeds being shouted from the house tops, no?
