Does anyone remember old Saltair, in Garfield Utah?

Post by freedomforall »

Does anyone remember Saltair? How about the Rollercoaster that was standing there? I remember riding passed it, as a very young kid, after most of it burned to the ground. I had relatives living in Garfield next to Kennecott Copper.

As a lifelong student of American History, I have seen stories and photos, tho' I have never been there.
However I did have the pleasure of riding the roller coasters at Pacific Ocean Park in Santa Monica, California and the park on the ocean in Santa Cruz, California.

I think it's spelled Saltair.
And the church was original half owner for Saltair I

I drove by it 5 times a week for about 2 years. I worked at the Kennecott Smelter and lived in Ogden.

My bad. I used to live real close to Saltair and don't remember how to spell it? :D

Well I remember Saratoga Hot Springs & Amusement Park established in 1884 next to Utah Lake, now destroyed by progress. I had lots of fun there when just a lad. It was found at these coordinates: N 40° 21.076 W 111° 54.204 Now the area is private.

I started there when it was shut down in the mid 80s and was there when it started back up again. Since no one was around and it was all shut down, I got to go up to the top of the smokestack. It was really interesting. As an EMT, I had a lot of burns, cuts, some really horrible trauma, but the worst was the acid burns. The ore had a large amount of sulfur which they got rid of by turning it into sulfuric acid and selling it to battery companies. When there was an accident, the people were obviously in pain, but the look of acid burns was scary, but the smell was horrible.

In 1988 I moved to Bingham Canyon and got to work in the mine. It was incredible. We really had a lot of fun. Good memories.

I remember seeing pictures of saltair. I also went to the Saratoga Springs amusement park once when I was tiny but then they shut it down. I don't remember going. I just remember the family talking about it.
