"In the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord instructs people to use their “moral agency” to become politically involved by “befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land. … Whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil” (Doctrine and Covenants 98:6-7). The Lord teaches that to preserve liberties, the Constitution must serve as the basis for law and the standard against which “laws of man” must be judged. If they deviate from that standard, they must be rejected (see Doctrine and Covenants 98:5-7)."
"As those of Christ’s kingdom, and as citizens of nations around the world, we are not charged with supporting any specific political party, group or organization. We are charged with becoming politically involved, with carefully exercising our right to vote and with choosing good and wise leaders. While politics may be growing less civil and, at times, more unpleasant, to step away is to leave a void that tyrants will fill and ultimately each of us will bear responsibility because, as the classical Greek philosopher Plato explained, “Your silence gives consent.""

Mormons i know vote. Some run for office. Some run for president.
What are you expecting Mormons to do? Can 6 million Mormons affect a country with over 300 million people? Yes in Utah, but elsewhere?

Re: Our duty to be politically involved
I believe that if Mormons generally had responded positively to the admonitions of latter-day prophets and apostles to learn, uphold and abide by the principles of the US Constitution and had awakened to and opposed the efforts of the "secret combinations" to destroy the freedoms of their countries, that the Lord would have helped out. So yes, I believe we could have made a difference, at least corresponding to the effort we put into it. As it was and is new, Mormons generally have not done as admonished.

Re: Our duty to be politically involved
If they were united in upholding the Constitution, they could accomplish quite a bit.
Supporting a candidate because they are LDS or even a good businessman doesn't cut it.
