Ben Carson Wants to Overturn Roe v. Wade, Compares it to Slavery
I knew better than to get my hopes up that a principled man might be able to successfully run for President of the United States. I have known, ever since I volunteered to work for Sen. Hank Brown, that decent people do not succeed in politics. To be involved in the political process, you will be one of two things:
1) Corrupt
or
2) Ineffective
There is no third choice. By voicing an honest and principled stance on Roe v. Wade. Dr. Carson has assured himself he is absolutely, positively, and clearly not electable. Even with the correct stance on the issue, the political climate in this country says there are some absolutes: If a conservative runs on a ticket that is strong on gun control, they will NOT be electable. If a liberal runs on a ticket that is against affirmative action, they'll be booted from even running. Some issues, like opposing abortion or desiring more socialism, guarantee you will have absolute support from a small percentage of the populace and no chance at success from the majority.
It's a shame. Mark my words, we're going to be stuck with the hildabeast. The media have already made up their minds.

I see where you're coming from and I do think Carson would be constantly slammed by the media for it....
However - these are unusual times. For the first time a (real) American black man has a chance at being the Republican nominee, and people are sick and tired of business as usual. People feel unheard and they sense the deep corruption in our government. They're also tired of political correctness. Carson is a very well-spoken and intelligent man - at times, totally inspirational and quite genius in his delivery, despite his soft-spoken personality. It's possible he may be able to actually garner some portion of the black vote as well (though I'm not counting on much, but who knows) and a lot of black people are actually quite conservative on a number of issues, but only vote Democrat because of racial/demographic issues. But look at the support Trump is getting from blacks - I don't know if it's hyped up or not, but he seems to be getting some fairly broad support, and he's a rich white guy. If Trump can pull that off, what about Carson?
Furthermore, in the election, I'm sure Carson is eloquent enough to explain his position and either sell it to people or perhaps manage it in a politically expedient way (in other words, make it look like he's backing off it).
So I wouldn't write him off just yet. Who ever would have thought Trump would be where he is? Or even Carson for that matter? This is a pretty crazy election cycle. And if the GOP is up against Hillary Clinton, as wonderful and amazing of a liar that she is, she is still covered in the stink of an entire catalog of scandals, and people sense that. She's one of the most divisive figures in American politics. So who knows what could happen.

Don't you mean he is electable??
D&C 98:9-10 Admonishes us to seek diligently for honest, wise, good men to uphold in political office, and "whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil."
Hyrum Smith the Patriarch of the Church: "We engage in the election the same as in any other principle, you're to vote for good men and if you do not do this it is a sin. To vote for wicked men, it would be sin! Choose the good and refuse the evil. Men of false principles have preyed upon us like wolves upon helpless lambs. Damn the rod of tyrrany and curse it! Let every man use his liberties according to the Constitution. Don't fear man or devil, electioneer with all people, male and female, and exhort them to do the thing which is right. We want a President of the United States, not a party President, but a President of the whole people, for a party President disenfranchises the other party. Have a President who will maintain every man in his rights." (HC 6:323)
Joseph Smith Jr.: "We shall have the satisfaction of knowing we have acted conscienciously and have used our best judgement, and if we have to throw away our votes, we had better do so upon a worthy rather than an unworthy individual who might make use of the weapon we put in his hand to destroy us!" (Comprehensive History of the Church 2:208-209)
I will vote for the worthy candidate as Joseph smith advised. Screw what the media says. If we keep voting for the lesser of 2 evils all we will get is evil.
I wont let my vote be used against me to put me into more bondage. Or my brothers. We will be judged for it.
Think of it as raising your right hand to the square saying yep I will support and sustain you. You will be judged for the voting knowing that man or woman was unworthy of that office.
It's the voting for the lesser of 2 evils that has gotten us where we are at. When will it stop??

He's said a lot of things the media deemed controversial yet his favorability is at like 85%. He's in really great shape

With conservative voters, yes. Taking a public position against abortion in today's elections would stop a president with the popularity of Washington. It's even worse than a politician saying they're going to decrease Social Security.

If someone cannot get elected just because they oppose Roe v. Wade, then we (as a collective nation) deserve what we get, don't we.

Yes, and I wish we'd hurry up and get it.

Yeah, like Europe. They are being replaced by Muslims.

While I would be unlikely to vote for Ben Carson, I'm well to the left of him politicly, I do have to say that of all the GOP contenders he sounds like the most grown up and resonable to me. He say what his beliefs are in a reasoned and respectable way. Even when he misteps, like the remark about Muslums being elected it seemed clear that he was stating his private opinion and not, for example, calling into question the costitutional provision of no religious test. At least I hope he was not calling that provision into doubt.
While I may not be in complete agreement with what he says about abortion, I view abortion as a symtom of a much more disturbing problem, I can respect Dr. Carson for his candor and the adult and respectful way that he presents whis views. He is far better than that carnvial barker, Donald Trump, who I still suspect is really working to poision the GOP brand ahead of the general election.
