I can't convince myself that Jesus would deny her request to be baptized into His church. I don't believe He would worry too much about her controversial family, and publicity.

Unfortunately, the church has a long history of NECESSITY of disassociating with polygamy.
Further, it appears they did not ask her to denounce her family, but merely their practice of polygamy. Which, apparently she refused to do. Thus, she supports polygamy.
I don't know, but it doesn't sound at all like too much to me.

'disavow their polygamy', not them.

In the article, she said that the Church wants her to publicly disassociate from her family. The Church refused to comment.

This is her side- we don't know what really happened. I am guessing the church doesn't want to possibly be drug into something that could end up a public nightmare. WHAT if her intentions weren't as honest as they seem? I don't believe that the Presidency would tell her to disassociate with her family. The show- yes. But family is what we are about. There is a possibility she is locked into a contract with TLC and the church didn't want to become apart of it. Who knows but I doubt this article has the facts.

In a situation like this I do, also, question the motive. And where "SHOW BIZ" is involved, LOOK OUT!

I think some people have been misled by the title of the story, which indicates the girl was told to disavow her family.

In paragraph 8 it only says that she was told she has to denounce her family's practice - in other words, polygamy.

Exactly, just like when you have parents who are alcoholic you are to denounce alcohol use in public, or if they are smokers, or your mom is a cheater on your dad, or your parents voted for harry Reid.

We only get one side of the story and don't really know what exactly has been said to her. She has made it clear in the show too, that she has no intentions to practise polygamy (haven't really followed the show, but this is what I'm heard). So if it really is about disavow polygamy, she should be able to be baptized.

The church's strict stance is understandable. In the past, it was common for AUB people to be quiet about their beliefs and stay in the LDS church in order to get their endowments. I've understood that nowadays AUB gives its own endowments and there is really no need for "polygamous infiltration".

There's definitely only one half of the story told.

Maddie tweeted that:
The decision about my rejection was a choice made by the first presidency. They said my families publicity was too controversial.

I like that. It's about as good as when I read Angelina Jolie tweet "I had to turn down dinner with skmo because he's so handsome he was making Brad feel insecure."

Yeah, I heard he had a sad puppy dog face that generally elicited sympathy and compassionate feelings.

It is obvious that if Madison was genuine she would not be discussing the matter on the show or in the media.
