From King/Prophet Benjamin. Listen to the prophet, stop the contentions:
31 And now, my brethren, I would that ye should do as ye have hitherto done. As ye have kept my commandments, and also the commandments of my father, and have prospered, and have been kept from falling into the hands of your enemies, even so if ye shall keep the commandments of my son, or the commandments of God which shall be delivered unto you by him, ye shall prosper in the land, and your enemies shall have no power over you.
32 But, O my people, beware lest there shall arise contentions among you, and ye list to obey the evil spirit, which was spoken of by my father Mosiah.
33 For behold, there is a wo pronounced upon him who listeth to obey that spirit; for if he listeth to obey him, and remaineth and dieth in his sins, the same drinketh damnation to his own soul; for he receiveth for his wages an everlasting punishment, having transgressed the law of God contrary to his own knowledge..

How about : " Follow the Spirit, stop the contention".

You follow prophets, seers and revelators. If they want to have the title, they ought to prophesy, see and reveal. Simple enough for even Franco to understand, I hope.Franco wrote:So, all you want is a prophet who will tell you of things that will come to pass?Obrien wrote:No, Stahura, a prophet is one who is ACCEPTED, and even better REVERED, as a prophet by his followers. Get real...who expects PROPHECY from a PROPHET???
The next thing you'll want is teachers that teach, fire fighters that fight fires, builders that build, writers that write, mechanics that fix things, engineers that engineer things, lawyers who are expert in the law and cab drivers that drive cabs. THEN where would we be...?

Jesus Christ spoke His word regarding the prophets who would lead His Church.
“My word shall not pass away but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.” (Doctrine and Covenants 1:38)
In Doctrine and Covenants 27:13, Jesus Christ revealed to Joseph Smith that He, Jesus Christ, has “committed the keys of my kingdom, and a dispensation of the gospel for the last times; and for the fulness of times, in the which I will gather together in one all things, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth.”
“There is never but one on the earth at a time on whom this power and the keys of this priesthood are conferred.” (Doctrine and Covenants 132:7)
The prophet is tasked with receiving revelation from Jesus Christ on how to lead and direct the Church while we build the kingdom of God.

I don't disagree with this. The only observation o have is these men actually exhibited the qualities of prophets seers and revelators.rewcox wrote:From King/Prophet Benjamin. Listen to the prophet, stop the contentions:

I haven't seen that in the current prophets and apostles. I still sustain them and hope to have a confirmation that they are truly what they claim to be.
I do feel the spirit when they give speeches and when I read their talks. But I also felt the spirit at times when I read what Denver Snuffer said, and when I read a book written by a pastor. So I can't judge just by that that hey are what they claim. I patiently seek an answer.

King Benjamin dealt with false christs, false prophets, and stiffnecked people. He told them if they contended, they were following the evil spirit.

Re: The Prophet Is Jesus Christ’s Spokesman
David Bednar teaches that it doesn't matter if someone lays their hands on you and tells you to receive the spirit of you aren't seeking. You don't receive the Spirit just cause some man lays his hand on you.
The same goes for the priesthood. It doesn't matter if I was ordained by someone if I'm not seeking to receive it.
I don't care if Thomas Monson was ordained by another man, I want to know if God gave him priesthood power and authority, and I seek to know if God did this, I seek an answer through The Holy Ghost, not by signs or miracles worked by Thomas Monson.
We were taught by Brigham young and Johnn Taylor and Wilfred woodruff not to take their words blindly just because of their position. I refuse to follow blindly and tell everyone that he's a prophet if I don't know he really is. A title doesn't give you priesthood, God gives it to you.
Don't tell me I seek for signs because I don't. If I'm seeking for signs, then so is every investigator that the missionaries tell to pray and know that the Book of Mormon is true by the power of the Holy Ghost. I seek a similar answer by the same means that every investigator is asked to do.

Some people get a quick affirmative response from the Spirit. I wasn't consciously looking when I received a powerful witness that Harold B. Lee was God's prophet. I have received more simple confirmation for the prophets since.Stahura wrote:Don't tell me I seek for signs because I don't. You do Alma 32. Plant the seed, nourish and take care of it. You will find out.
If your seed is "haven't seen them do what a prophet seer or revelator does", your tree will grow into that. The evil spirit is happy to oblige.

After reading the BoM cover to cover a few times, I quit reading it like a book and I would reread and study certain chapters over and over until The Spirit taught me things that I hadn't seen before. It's so interesting how it becomes a new book after awhile, you see things that you never saw before. I love it!

Neither Mr. Snuffer nor the “pastors” who wrote books belong to Jesus Christ’s Church.Stahura wrote: I don't disagree with this. The only observation o have is these men actually exhibited the qualities of prophets seers and revelators.

I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God, which means Joseph Smith was a prophet and this is Jesus Christ’s only true Church. Anyone outside the Church can speak highly of the Savior, but anyone rejecting the Savior’s only true gospel is rejecting the Savior, regardless of what they claim.
Those who have a testimony of Jesus Christ and have never heard the true gospel that Jesus Christ has restored will be able to accept it in the spirit world. Many pastors harden their hearts against the true gospel because they get paid to teach people their interpretation of the Bible.
Joseph Smith wrote that in Paul’s writings, it states,
“Brethren, be followers of me.”
He also wrote that Paul admonishes them,
“Mark them which walk so as ye have us for an example.”
Joseph Smith also quoted what Paul said about those who would not follow him:
“For many walk of whom I have told you often and now tell you, even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction.”
Paul told the saints of his day to follow him, and he told them that “destruction” awaits those who choose a different path.
Joseph Smith quoted Paul because following the prophet is the correct path, while not following the prophet leads to destruction.
And the Prophet Joseph Smith stated,
“I warn all of you to look out whom you are going after. I exhort you to give heed to all the virtue and the teachings which I have given you.”
The Prophet Joseph Smith was undoubtedly including Mr. Snuffer and all the false priests in his statement.

The same spirit I feel reading a talk I hear from Thomas Monson I feel when I read the words of Denver Snuffer, a pastor, and my bishop. Either they all all false, or they all speak at least some truth.
Simply feeling the spirit when I read isn't enough to discern whether they be true messengers or not.
I seek a confirmation similar to the confirmation that I had when I gained a true testimony that the Book of Mormon is true.
I tell this forum that I really don't know if Thomas Monson is a true prophet, but I hope he is and I'm praying to know and multiple people throw quote after quote after quote telling me o follow the prophet trying to persuade me to just follow the prophet without further thought and that I'm planting evil seeds.
What on earth?
at church fast testimony meeting when you hear 10 straight people testify that we have a living prophet and that they love him and end their testimony without mentioning Jesus Christ, do you not see a problem with this?
How are so many incapable of believing in living prophets and Apostles without taking it too far and idolizing them?
I counted one Sunday. 13 people Said they know there's a living prophet and they pray for him and thank God for him, a few people told random stories and thanked God for a bunch of stuff. 2 people mentioned Jesus in their testimony , and only one actually spoke of Jesus Christ and went beyond just saying "I know my savior lives"
This is a problem and is Idolatry for SOME people. We dont go to church to worship prophets and apostles, so why is that all I hear in testimony meeting? There simply isn't a way to justify this. It's wrong. We should be preaching of Christ and his doctrine, calling him beloved and perfect .
I love having apostles and prophets. I sustain them. I'm also grateful that I cast aside my idols and ceased idolizing them, and I was blessed for it.

I get loads of doctrine when I read the Book of Mormon and other scriptures during the week, and I get more on Sunday in gospel doctrine and priesthood. Acknowledging prophets and apostles is not worshiping them or idolizing them. It is acknowledging Jesus Christ's servants and the fact that Jesus Christ has restored His only true and living Church with prophets and apostles.Stahura wrote:It matters not what quotes and scriptures you throw at me.its the spirit, not scriptures and quotes of men that will convert me and give me spiritual knowledge.Franco wrote:Neither Mr. Snuffer nor the “pastors” who wrote books belong to Jesus Christ’s Church.Stahura wrote: I don't disagree with this. You will find Christ and his doctrine in the scriptures, in the talks that are given, in gospel doctrine classes, and in priesthood. Fast and testimony is not the time to "preach." It is a time to testify of the truthfulness of the Church and the gospel that Jesus Christ restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
The reason you have a problem with it all is that you do not have a testimony that this is Jesus Christ's only true and living Church and He leads it through His prophet on the earth. So according to you, we should just testify how great Jesus is and forget about His prophet and His Church. Most of us already know of the Savior's greatness because we all know about the eternal plan of salvation and we all know about His atoning sacrifice, His Church, His prophets and apostles, and His gospel.

Re: The Prophet Is Jesus Christ’s Spokesman
Franco, you misrepresent my views.
Why is it that when I suggest that we speak less of men and more of God that I'm accused of saying we should forget God and his Church?
I say we need to speak less of men and apostles and prophets and more of Jesus Christ.
Note that I did not say we need to forget Gods church and his prophets and Apostles.
Leaders will not get you to heaven. They cannot. So why do I hear more about prophets and apostles than I hear about jesus in church?
I say again. Speak LESS about leaders, speak more about Jesus.
I repeat, I do not say to forget the church and Gods prophets and apostles.
If you become obsessed with you car, and you tell everyone about it all the time and you admire it, constantly look at it and pictures of it, you begin to idolize your car. This can happen with any object in life, be it a phone, computer, or video game. This can also happen with a human being. What I see appears to be idolatry. We are to listen to messengers and focus on the message. I hear nobody speak about the message of these apostles. They only repeat over and over and over that they are called of Hod and that you need to follow them, they are gods voice his servant blah blah, but nothing of their message.
I reject idolatry, and I follow the prophet focusing on his message. When I realized that prophets and apostles had become idols to me, I repented and cast away my idols and was rewarded with many blessings and revelations.
I'm very happy that you have a testimony of the church, I have no doubt of your conversion and your intentions. I believe in the same God as you do, and follow the same prophet as you do.

Re: The Prophet Is Jesus Christ’s Spokesman
One needs to run everything past God. There are many false prophets and a very, very few true ones. And even the true prophets don't always speak the words of God. They may simply give their understanding or opinions.Bee Prepared wrote:Trusting God IS trusting a true and living Prophet. The voice of the Lord comes through His appointed servants. Of course we can draw close to God individually, we can receive personal revelation, but when you do not trust a living Prophet of God, does that mean you don't trust God?
Religion is between us and God, not us and any man. We have to discern. When we stand before God at the time of judgment, we will be without defense. We cannot say that so-and-so deceived us or that we were obediently following a prophet sent from God, as a defense for turning away from Christ or for not recognizing His words when He spoke through a messenger we did not expect.
For behold, when ye shall be brought to see your nakedness before God, and also the glory of God, and the holiness of Jesus Christ, it will kindle a flame of unquenchable fire upon you.
Mormon 9:5)
One of the definitions of "naked" is without protection or defense. From this online dictionary.

Let us all fast and pray for him, this coming day of Atonement, along for ourselves, that as in Enoch's and Melchizedek's day, we can all turn away from our transgressions, of not following "all" the words of Christ as we are to, and so do, be, and know.♡Robert Sinclair wrote:It is Thomas Monson's turn to lead as Enoch and Melchizedek or not, he is a free agent to do as his heart desires, as the head of the House of Ephraim today.♡

Yes, pray for your leaders as well as each other, because of the love of God, and of each other, in your heart, to have.♡Robert Sinclair wrote:Let us all fast and pray for him, this coming day of Atonement, along for ourselves, that as in Enoch's and Melchizedek's day, we can all turn away from our transgressions, of not following "all" the words of Christ as we are to, and so do, be, and know.♡Robert Sinclair wrote:It is Thomas Monson's turn to lead as Enoch and Melchizedek or not, he is a free agent to do as his heart desires, as the head of the House of Ephraim today.♡
And if your heart is not quite right, afflict your soul, this coming Day of Atonement, fasting and praying unto God, that you might receive this mighty change of heart, to one of compassion and mercy, as was given king Lamoni and his people, that you yourself might serve God, as he has asked of you, with clean hands, and a pure heart.♡
