Well, I'm certain it wasn't because they weren't doing their home teaching!

Probably a stake fast for something. Water maybe.
My thoughts exactly - there was even an article several months ago about water becoming a problem for all residents west of Redwood Road because of low water tables, development and the stinking NSA data center (which uses anywhere from 5-8 million gallons/day to keep its electronic surveillance equipment cooled so they can eavesdrop and gather data on us political dissidents, Constitution supporters and anyone in opposition to more war, criminal mischief, power and control for the feds). X(

You may also be on to something with the MLM comment Shadow... we had an emergency preparedness workshop a few weeks ago in the cultural hall at our ward-house and they had 4-5 classes going once/hr. for 3 hours and one of them was a class on essential oils (Doterra) for emergency use. My wife and several others were not happy about it since it felt more like a sales pitch than an FYI on how to use the oils - was definitely inappropriate.

Quite possible, all the comments here.

A fast for water or for moisture. Maybe a shadowy MLM op. And yes the doTerra class inside of a Church building is defintely inappropriate.

All the non-members that were invited drink all of the beer, because the rest of the Mormons are afraid of drinking in front of each other.

Silly. They serve root beer at a Mormon kegger. Haven't you ever been to one?

Just finished bout half an hour ago. Interestingly enough, it was just about being a better father and husband. They spoke about how abuse in the home is never appropriate, and happened to make mention at the end about the deteriorating effects pornography has on the family. I'm not sure my this was considered an emergency. Maybe it was some kind of test as to whether or not we'd listen to our appointed leaders? I'm not sure. Still waiting for the day when every stake has an "emergency meeting" at once. Now that'd be interesting.

If I got pulled into to that I would have walked out... (considering I dislike being tricked and am neither a father or a husband) :))
No one else in my house, though I suppose I could yell at myself...hmmm

Too many emergency meetings like that and people will stop going. Then what happens if it's a true emergency?

Good point, Toni. The boy who called wolf syndrome.

Of course, I would say those prompted by the Spirit would still go, so it might not be a bad thing.

You guys try being a Bishop. Given what they hear and have to deal with, I could understand why such a meeting is called and why it is an emergency.

Didn't a wife end up shooting her abusive husband in eagle mountain a few weeks ago?

Yes in fact she did. Many of us were remembering the incident after the meeting.

Church being politically correct. Sure, there are abusive men, but also abusive women. But if men complain they're told to grow a pair. I also know women who filed for divorce because their husbands weren't making enough money. Going to have an emergency meeting to tell the sisters to stop spending so much and for tearing apart families? Nope. All hunky-dory.

SUMMARY: According to a 2010 national survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Department of Justice, in the last 12 months more men than women were victims of intimate partner physical violence and over 40% of severe physical violence was directed at men. Men were also more often the victim of psychological aggression and control over sexual or reproductive health. Despite this, few services are available to male victims of intimate partner violence.

If bishops weren't set up as the "father of the ward family", they wouldn't have to settle every problem (real or imagined) that came down the pike. Teach correct principles (there's plenty of time on Sunday for that) and let them govern themselves. You guys and your bishop worship...

My thoughts exactly. I made mention to more than a few people that it should have been a husband and wife thing, not just men. Not complaing against my leaders, I just think it goes both ways.

You don't have to believe it pink death, but having a father- in -law that's a criminal defense attorney I can assure you the numbers above are probably pretty accurate.

The main difference is most men don't call the police when they are hit by their female partner.

For me personally, I've been hit one time in my adult life and it wasn't by a male (and no it wasn't by my wife either).

Women think they can get away with assaulting men because...well...they're women and most men won't hit back.

Most child abuse (verbal and physical) is perpetrated by women in the USA. I would assume that this also applies to LDS people as well.
