These Things Doth I Hate

Post by ajax »

In the spirit of Proverbs 6:
16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
I offer my own list:

Star Wars prequels
Piousness
Pious language
Smoothed-faced hypocrites
Long faces
Long prayers
Long robes
Learned sermons
Priestcraft
Self righteousness
Flattery
Fawning
Obesiance
Ego building praise
Arrogance
Smugness
Self-congratulations
Appeal to authority
Did I say Star Wars prequels?

The Lord mentioned lying twice so I guess you can mention Star Wars prequels twice. Hayden Christiansen :ymsick:

Here's my list:

Censorship of Opposing Views
Manipulation
Narrow-mindedness
Abuse of power
Willful ignorance
Racism
Cruelty/Bullying (includes animals)
Open wounds/carbuncles
Germinating Strawberries

These are the things I love.

Reading the Book of Mormon. A man will get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts than by any other book.

Reading the words of our Latter-day prophets. For surely, they are the words God has given to us through his chosen and anointed servants.

Reading all of the scriptures in our standard works. Indeed, they are the words of Christ.

Attending my meetings on Sunday and keeping the Sabbath holy.

Attending General Conference and sustaining those whom God has chosen to lead his Church.

Pressing forward with a steadfastness in Christ.

I love feasting upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do.

A proud look. We can't see faces over the net without a webcam, but by words we can tell to some degree as to the way they are written, that some people may be mighty proud.

a lying tongue. Let's hope there are none of us lying, God knows for sure and for certain though.

hands that shed innocent blood. There are plenty of people doing this nowadays.

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations. Isn't cutting down the church and leaders doing just that?

feet that be swift in running to mischief. This can be in line with the previous listing. Mischief covers a lot.

A false witness that speaketh lies. Like calling President Packer a fearmonger by one of our posters?

he that soweth discord among brethren. This is huge. I mean, We don't have any discord on this forum do we?

I'm just glad it isn't Mirror Lake, or Echo Res.

Thanks for a little humor. We need it once in a while, as long as it is clean after water skiing. :D

If we all received our learning and understandings from God, we would all understand the words of truth the same. But some profess that a arm of flesh is who interprets and receives Gods word for us. Therefore we have discord. There will be no discord in Zion however, for all who are Zion, will KNOW the Lord.
2 Nephi ch 33:14-15.
14 And you that will not partake of the goodness of God, and respect the words of the Jews, and also my words, and the words which shall proceed forth out of the mouth of the Lamb of God, behold, I bid you an everlasting farewell, for these words shall condemn you at the last day.

15 For what I seal on earth, shall be brought against you at the judgment bar; for thus hath the Lord commanded me, and I must obey. Amen.

And isn't he best way to come to know the Lord is by reading the words from so many "arms of flesh" in canon? Why else are we instructed to feast upon the word. These people were mere men were they not?

John 13:20
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

D&C 84
36 For he that receiveth my servants receiveth me; are not these servants chosen by God arms of flesh?
37 And he that receiveth me receiveth my Father;
38 And he that receiveth my Father receiveth my Father’s kingdom; therefore all that my Father hath shall be given unto him.

God has read and accepted the words given in the scriptures, of which most came from him in the first place. I have not heard the Lord bless those words who you rely upon today however. I have however heard many say that they are his words. The whole point of Christ's Gospel is to personally come to him and hear his words from his own mouth. You quote D&C 84 which puts the whole church under condemnation, also. God could and has had a donkey speak his words. Should I stand in dung all day, waiting to hear Gods words from a donkey? God said that he could raise a prophet up from a rock, should I stand in a quarry all day to see a rock rise up to speak the words of God?

I don't like a lot of people, I don't get along with others very well and generally enjoy my own company.
I loathe peanut butter and jam sandwiches (jam belongs on pancakes) and pineapple pizza.
The only foods I dislike.
Certain aspects of church (it's too early, it's always too cold), my absolute need for caffeine, my anti social nature (it's a weird love-hate with that), dogs.

Why not, Joseph Smith sat in a jailhouse dungeon awaiting words from God? I've seen it and it ain't very appealing or pleasant.

Here is a good way to gauge hatred or liking.
If Hitler were alive, would any of us sit at the same table with him, in love, to sup?
Would any of us sit near him out of merely not liking him?
Would any of us avoid him no matter what?
Would any of us sit with him just to, possibly, get a good meal?
WWJD?

Not sure if hatred of nazi's can really go hand in hand with a "hatred" of dogs and peanut butter and jam...

Yeah, 'cuz others are much easier to fix. ;)

I was just reading a book, about dreams of all things, that brought up the 7 deadly sins and 7 Holy virtues.
Each vice is kind of an opposite for a virtue.

1. Pride 1. Humility
2. Envy 2. Kindness
3. Wrath 3. Forgiveness

4. Sloth 4. Diligence

5. Greed 5. Charity
6. Gluttony 6. Temperance (Moderation)
7. Lust 7. Chastity

Top 3 and part of 4 are primarily spiritual.
Bottom 3 and part of 4 are primarily dealing with physical nature.

In the similar light of Proverbs (in OP), Galatians 5 speaks of even more negatives, but some seem to be less Christ-like than others, since Jesus disobeyed some like sedition (rebelling against religious authorities) and hearsay, which Jesus was tried for as well. Another reminder to use one's brain and the spirit in discerning truths - even in scriptures. And principles, which can be applied differently in circumstantial ways, tend to be more godly, than blindly strict virtues followed to the letter.
