I agree that "civil war" is not an apt description thereby making it a myth which was your whole point. I disagree with his alternative choices which are also myths.ajax wrote:I agree with his choice. "Civil War" is definitely a myth.
So back to the other questions. What makes a myth a myth? Who decides what is true or not? Just because it is in a book and most people believe it, as you know, obviously does not make it true or false. So, is the title of this thread misleading because it propagates Myth in and of itself by making a statement that is ambiguous? Should it really be "Untruth, the great enemy of Truth? haha! yeah I get it also.
Truth or what passes as truth and how it is put forth should always come into question.
One mans myth is another mans reason for living eh? :p

Its all perspective...and the only one that matters is God's. So the reality is making the effort to get in alignment...

Of course there's plenty of deception in religion, politics etc, and it's often wrapped in a pretty package. All of the more reason to use the brain and spirit God's given to us to find truth.
And often, the most profound truths can only be explained via parable or myth.
I think the difference of a myth that deceives and a myth that enlightens is the holding of values or principles (esp. studying/ponder/pray) and the spirit that help in discernment.

Oh yeah, discernment is everything when talking about myths as they are put forth in this thread.Thinker wrote:I think the difference of a myth that deceives and a myth that enlightens is the holding of values or principles (esp. studying/ponder/pray) and the spirit that help in discernment.
