My husband and his work mates were fans, they dared him and waged bets on whether or not he could get to meet me.

At an institute Halloween dance. I was borderline inactive and was drug there by my VTer (who had a crush on my HTer and she saw me as a "project" they could work on together). My HTer invited me home for Sunday dinner, which freaked my VTer out until she realized I wasn't interested. I didn't like my husband when I first met him either. (Bad halloween costume.) Liked him better a week later when he wasn't dressed terribly. We got married and about a year later my VTer and HTer got married, too :)

If I had it to do all over again though I would prob pick someone different.

Regional young adults dance. I had been home from my mission for a year, not expecting anything.

I was facing the dance floor, when the spirit said to my mind, "Turn around and ask that girl to dance!" I had never met her before.

Engaged to be married 7 days later.

Married now nearly 30 years.

I had a profile so I could post recipes and on the boards...He was newly single looking for recipes and how-to's to eat healthy...9 months later we were married in the Mt. Timpanogos temple. We've been eating well together ever since. :-D

Our mutual friend wanted to set us up on a blind date, but by the time my husband was up at BYU that fall though, I had started dating another guy for two years. The other guy bought me an engagement ring, but he never wanted to commit (I later found out there were worthiness issues that he did not want to resolve). A few months later, the same mutual friend contacted me again to go on a date with my husband. It was simple, sweet, and right with my husband- a huge contrast from my previous 2 years of dating.

It wasn't love at first sight with my husband and me, but it was definitely an instant friendship. I wouldn't want anyone else :)

Yep, my now hubby and I met on an LDS dating site and will be celebrating 6 years of marriage next month. At first I blew him off because his opening line was just "What up?" and I took that to mean he wasn't really serious, but he persisted and I'm happy I gave in :) I think it was a bit of bravado because in reality he has a sweet, sensitive, artistic soul and isn't at all what I took him to be in the beginning.

I did meet quite a few jerks, creepers, and octopus hands, but I guess those kind of people are out there in all aspects of life. Now that I've seen and experienced the bad, I can appreciate the good...my husband!

Never had much luck in singles wards/activities/dances...not sure why. I chalk some of it up to the "let's hang out instead of date" culture that seems to have sprung up in the 90's and just gets worse as the years roll by. Was told I can come across as intimidating too, but I don't see that. *shrugs*

Calculus class at snow college. It was the year after my mission and her second year. We had studied in the same group all year and it took me 6 months to end a relationship with someone else and start one with her. It will be 19 years this summer.

This summer we'll be 34 years married. You get less for murder these days.

I was a Activities Commitee Co-chair at my BYU Singles Ward. Talk about Influence in a ward; the activiities committee (RIP) planned everything that happened all week long except for the 3 short hours on Sunday.

We had weekly service projects at a nursing home. We did "break-the-fasts", "mix-and-mingles", tunnel singing, ward prayer, FHE groups, intramural sports, get-to-know-you-games, skits, theme dances, temple trips, big monthly service projects, sub-for-santas, etc etc etc.

I think the monthly service projects were a real important thing. And at Christmas and Valentines we did "secret santa" and "secret valentine" and played matchmaker hooking up people we suspected liked each other.

Long story short, we had over 30 marriages that next summer, mostly ward members marrying other ward members including myself and the other activities co-chair.

Wow. That's quite impressive from a singles ward. :ymapplause:
But then, I'm in a YSA in downtown SLC. There has been one engagement in the entire ward this year, that is among those who belong to the ward.

I met mine in a potato chip factory (Golden Wonder for anyone from the UK) She was packing boxes as a summer job and I was a newly qualified Maintenance Engineer.

I used to walk by her packing machine, slip out a plug and wait for the maintenance ticket to come in for overweight bags. All the engineers knew repairs on her machine were mine ;) I would chat to her then push the plug back in and repeat the process later.

She eventually fell for my charms and we celebrated 40 years in February. :ymparty: :ymparty:
