Mo Su - Articles of Faith

Post by Obrien »

Mo Su - As far as the AoF go, I believe they are generally instructive, but they have been raised to an unwarranted status of doctrine in the LDS church. They are pithy, easily memorized and a offer fertile material for answering questions without understanding. What part of the AoF gives you heartburn - the Bible being the word of God as far as it is translated correctly?

12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
As far as I am concerned this AoF should read:

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, as long as they are obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law (of God).

What's Mo Su mean? Is that some kind of Chinese dinner? Or is that what Snuffer (the lawyer) wakes up thinking?

Doctrine and Covenants 58:21
21 Let no man break the laws of the land, for he that keepeth the laws of God hath no need to break the laws of the land.

And here's one that a lot of Mormons just plain ignore:

D&C 98:9 (4–10)
4 And now, verily I say unto you concerning the laws of the land, it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them.
5 And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me.
6 Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;
7 And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil.
8 I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free.
9 Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn.
10 Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil.

cometh of evil = how many policies, laws, amendments, programs and support for such cometh of evil?

Yet, we are instructed to:

Doctrine and Covenants 58:22
22 Wherefore, be (a)subject to the powers that be, until he reigns whose right it is to reign, and subdues all enemies under his feet.

(a) refers to TG under Governments

We still need to keep focused on a righteous endeavor.

It's part of a secret combination among rabid snufferites. I could tell you more, but then I'd have to kill you.
