Just wanted to add my two cents about BYU. I had a friend who recently graduated from the U of U. He wanted to get into the graduate neuroscience program at BYU, so he scheduled an appointment with his counselor. He showed up for his appointment (looking a little scruffy) and was told he couldn't speak with the counselor until he went home and shaved. THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LET HIM TALK TO THE COUNSELOR BECAUSE OF SOME SCRUFF. How unbelievable is that? He isn't a member of the church so obviously this blew him away. He now thinks Mormons and BYU in particular must be full of nut jobs.

This Pharisaical attitude does so much damage to people and the reputation of LDS members, it is so sad to see.

I've noticed a lot more men sporting beards than I ever saw a few years ago.

I used to not like beards unless they were on men who happened to look really good in them. Now, it seems almost unnatural to see a beardless man.

From an objective perspective, some things are very, very ludicrous. We who are used to them think they are normal and have no clue how utterly abnormal they really are.

That, or you are in a movie portraying Brigham Young or Jesus or someone like that.

The act like you're trying to pull some kind of workers comp fraud or something.
yes, it (beard card) was difficult to get back in the day. my brother had to go to a dermatologist and get a medical diagnosis of sensitive skin (pseudophiliculitis, iirc) to get away with having a beard. that was a couple if decades ago, but if the beard trend is re-emerging, it will likely get more and more difficult to get a card.
it was like a driver's license for having a beard. the testing center always required he have the card on his person to take a test. any time he had to interact with the university, he had to prove he had a card before he could ( fill in the blank). and it was an annual ordeal to go get the card.

I am a proud beard wearer for more than 2 decades, and I have noticed the beard trend in my ward. I used to go and give props to any guy who sported a beard. now there are too many of us to bother.

I would post a pic of a woman with hairy underarms to "reconnect to the pioneers" but as Mormon culture now sees exposed shoulders as pornographic then maybe I shouldn't.

If I were to marry 27 women I would not dictate how they shaved or did not shave. I will note that it is interesting that people today see women who want to be natural as weird and any guy who has no problem with it as having a fetish. Strange how society dictates how people should see the world, and how easy it is to manipulate them; way too easy.

I have a beard and will keep it... :D for our God is a God of Glory and he has a beard and so does his son Christ Jesus.

We also see that Elohim and Jehovah the GODS have long white hair as wool and long white beards and are clothed with ROBES of Glory..

i love this quote from Hugh Nibley
The worst sinners, according to Jesus, are not the harlots and publicans, but the religious leaders with their insistence on proper dress and grooming, their careful observance of all the rules, their precious concern for status symbols, their strict legality, their pious patriotism… the haircut becomes the test of virtue in a world where Satan deceives and rules by appearances.
