I think the excess funds are used to build strip malls. Much cheaper to operate. Unfortunately, they don't attract the "high rollers" like a $5 billion mall does. :ymdevil:

In all seriousness, I don't think the money carries over. If there is excess funds they use it for another Stake in need. Brad Walker told me that sometimes when you raise $6000 it might only cost $3000 for one stake and the same for another. So you are basically adopting two. It just depends on the need at the time.

I'm down with whatever Stake the people here choose. Or you can choose one and present it to your Ward and we can all contribute to it. I don't care either way. I'm just the guy that contacted LCF and asked the questions some of us had. I don't feel the need to be the guy in charge by any means. It won't affect the $ amount my wife and I give to LCF, it will only change where it goes.

I know several people have PM'd me about donating directly. One person alone donated $1000 which is awesome!!!

I think the most important thing is that we are creating awareness for these kids.

We only need to raise $500/ month to reach the $6000. If we pick a Stake and 10 people here commit to send $50/month to LCF directly (earmark our Stake) we would have no problem. Anyone else that wants to contribute is welcome to do so. I just think we need to have a core group committed to the $500 IMHO. If not, then it's probably better that we don't adopt the Stake and just let people donate their funds to LCF as they see fit.

PS...any word from David Bednar? ;)

Thanks ajax and caddis and Obrien for continuing to keep this breathing. And I especially thank those who have contributed.

I've been a little more busy than expected and haven't devoted the time to it. I also assume this time of year is more difficult to give for many.

I do honestly think we can achieve close to the $6,000 mark by the end of January.
The fire started good and I feel somewhat responsible for letting it fizzle. Even if we don't get there, I feel proud to associate with all that have the desire to help those who need it most. It's putting our money where our mouth is.

While I have been contributing directly for a while I would be happy to commit to an additional $ 50/ a month either directly to Liahona or through the forum whichever would increase awareness of the issues. Caddis if you wish to pick a stake on our behalf you have my vote

I looked over the LCF website and noticed a note under the Cuzco, Peru Stake. It reads: 2 stakes; needs $500/month. I take that to mean $500 would cover both Stakes, but I emailed for clarification. Peru was one of the areas Shaela mention in her email, so I think that would be as good of place as any.

I can kick in $50/month as well. If there are those that would like to commit to $25 if that works better for them that's cool too. No one needs to post what they are donating monthly on this page either. If you want to remain somewhat anonymous you can PM me and I will keep a tally of committed donors until we reach our $500/month need.

If we get a list of people committed to doing it I will contact Shaela and get the ball rolling.

No worries jockeybox. It's a busy time of year and I suspect you are correct about it being a difficult time of year for some to give. We will get there. Even if we have to do it over the course of the next year I know it can be done.

Latest from Shaela.

Yes, the $500/month ($6000/year) covers both stakes, because there are not as many children enrolled in the program from the stakes in Cuzco. I have actually just been going through the numbers and right now Cuzco has 29 children enrolled between the two stakes, so the current bare minimum funding need is more around $3000/year.
I would have to check with the coordinator, but we may be able to enroll more children in the program if you are interested in adopting these stakes.

Sincerely,
Shaela Avery

I do reserve the right to change a couple points in case it's determined the Cambodia Stake isn't the most urgent. However, that can't be determine until Sheila gets back to caddis and I wanted to get this posted like I had promised.

I put a deadline of January 31. It's arbitrary. We can end it before or after that date. I just had to put something in.

I know some voiced a concern of placing money in a monthly manner. I would suggest to go ahead and donate your monthly amount and we'll worry about next month later.

P.S. If I botched anything (like grammar, spelling), don't hesitate to let me know. I did this kind of quickly.
Bump. Will the date be extended?

Another way to give (indirectly) to LCF is through AmazonSmile. Just make sure you are logging on to the AmazonSmile website and not the main site.

Sad that there have to be separate foundations to do this. Doesn't it seem like fast offering funds should be covering this need? How long does this run or when is the deadline to donate? My issue is timing and funds but hoping to be in a better position soon

The Youcaring.com fundraiser has expired so I'm not sure if you can still donate there or not. You can donate anytime to Liahona Children's Foundation. If there's a certain Stake you would like your donation to be applied to, just specify it on the memo portion of your check or in the comment section via Paypal.

I have been asking for my donations to be sent to Cuzco, Peru. You can pick any of the Stakes or just send your donation and let LCF decide the best use for it. If they have excess funds in one area, it gets sent to another area anyway. So you really can't go wrong no matter how you choose to donate.

In regards to fast offering funds, you are absolutely correct!! The church should be taking care of these people with the FO funds and tithing funds as well. Unfortunately, it isn't happening.
