Hi, newbie here:)

Post by Kitkat »

I am a mother of 5 kids, on the homeschooling adventure. I taught public school for three years before getting married. I love studying the gospel with my husband. We are seekers of truth desiring a deeper relationship with our savior for ourselves and children.

We have experienced 2 great awakenings in the past 3 years. Our first was a type of political awakening from god. We were destitute, and our extended family was also quite poor so we turned to the church, our bishop advised us to come back if we were desperate. We never went back, but turned to the government. In my ignorance and desperation I turned to government aid. I knew every program available, and I shared these eagerly with my fellow struggling friends honestly believing it was a blessing from god. After 7 years (almost to the day!, our 7 years of famine) of struggling financially God told us he could only help us as much as we could trust him. We cut all government aid...the week of thanksgiving, no yummy foods stamps feast :) this year. No safety net of medical care for our then 4 small kids. Then God sent us a financial blessing, a miracle really. We began to stabilize financially. We trusted God, tried to change our lives to match what we are learning.

The second has happened this past year as I have begun to read/study issues about the lds church vs the gospel of Christ that have strengthened my faith in god and weakened my faith in the arm of flesh :) I am currently studying baptism by fire, and I am amazed that something I thought happened to me when I was 8, could be a future event awaiting me. I would love any guidance...How do you seek this, know when it happens, help you children prepare for this?

I am excited to be alive and learning how truly delicious the Gospel of Christ is!

Have you requested admittance to the Approaching the Heavenly Gift area? Baptism of fire is discussed there, with almost no contention. You don't have to have read, or agree with everything Denver Snuffer, but you do need to be kind and respectful of what others believe, which is really what the gospel is all about, right?

Be patient. Sometimes it takes a long time to get into the HG area. I know. I've applied lots of times.

Your introduction gave me goosebumps. I think it is amazing that you were able to trust the Lord and get off of government aid. That is a big step. I am noticing with sorrow that there are more and more people being driven to use government aid by the upsetting changes in the economy. Continue to trust the Lord and I am sure you will be blessed for it as well as be able to show others a good example.

Glad you are a part of the forum.

Hi honey (only I can call kitkat with this title as a male on this forum (wink)). I will be forthright, this is my better half, my wife - and I am excited to hear her perspectives, as I know her very well, and I've never seen any other woman as of yet, be able to have an entire primary silent and listening intently without a noise or wiggle, as I have watched with my wife, known as kitkat on this forum, so I dare say she has a power in virtue and the Holy Spirit that comes from living with the choice to have a modest mothers guileless heart and avoiding the pitfalls many women fall into with media, books, etc.. which gives her the power to hold any child's attention, as those little spirit's want to connect with a woman adult mentor, but most women are frankly distracted by something so as to loose the added measure of the light and spirit that I feel my wife is able to harness and use in teaching children.
