Shadows of Christ

Post by Simon »

One of the most amazing things about the Book of Mormon is, that apart from the wonderful literal happenings, we also find intensive symbolism, and shadows within these literal storys. As I was studying king Benjamings speech, I was amazed how much symbolism of Christ I found within just a few chapters. And this is just the beginning of how much of an Urim and Thumin the Book of Mormon can be to us.

Here are just a few of my thoughts.. Would love to hear your experiences.

1.
King Benjamin made a proclamation throughout all the land Mosiah 1:10

Shadow of :
„And the Lord hath sent his holy prophets among all the children of men.. to every kindred nation and tongueMosiah 3:13

2.
King Benjamin teaches outside the walls of the temple because of the great multitude Mosiah 2:6-7

Shadow of :
God himselfe leaves heaven in behalf of humankind Mosiah 13:34

3.
King Benjamin gathers his people around the temple Mosiah 1:10

Shadow of :
Christ gathers his people as a hen gathered her chicken under her wings D&C 10:65

4.
He does so to give them a new name Mos. 1:11-12

Shadow of :
Christ will „change our hearts through faith on his name; therefore, are we born of him and have become his sons and his daughters. Mosiah 5:7

5.
King Benjamin erects an tower so that all can hear his voice, and learn words of salvation Mosiah 2:7

Shadow of :

Christ overcame the world and became the ".. the tower of salvation" 2 Sam. 22:51
That „he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice 2 Nephi 9:2

6.
They follow the Kings invitation and gather round about the temple Mosiah 6-7

Shadow of :
„And he came down and stood in the midsts of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him3 Nephi 11:8

7.
They come with their tents Mosiah 2:6-7

Shadow of :
Being strangers in the Land, being strangers to God, still wandeing in an spiritual wilderness, not being his sons and daughters yet
„ Ye shall dwell in tents, that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers" Jerem. 35:7

8.
They „pitched their tents with open doors towards the temple, so they could hear his words“. Mosiah 2:5-7

Shadow of :
1. Receiving sacred knowledge, 2. To come with an open heart 3. Longing for plain truths

1.„And all these things ( sacred revelations ) did my father see, and hear, and speak, as he dwelt in a tent, and also a great many more things, which cannot be written upon these plates. 1 Nephi 9:1

2.„And Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents" Gen 25:27

3.„The Jews ..sought for things that they could not understand. Wherefore, because of their blindness, which blindness came by looking beyond the mark, they must needs fall: for God hath taken away his plainness from them, and delivered unto them many things which they cannot understand, because they desired it Jacob 4:14

9.
„And they could not all hear his words...therefore he caused that the words which he spake should be written and sent forth among those that were not under the sound of the voice" Mosiah 2:8

Shadow of :
„Wether by my own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same D&C 1:38
„To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, ..To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful“ D&C 46:13-14

10.
King Benjamin „But I am like yourselve, subject to all manner of infirmities“ Mosiah 2:11

Shadow of :
„He is a man of sorrow, and aquainted with grief.. smitten of God and afflicted Isiah 53:3-4

11.
„And even I, myselfe, have labored with mine own hands that I migt serve you“ Mosiah 2:14

Shadow of :
„And lo, he cometh unto his own, that salvation might come unto the children of manMosiah 3:9

12.
„And that ye should not be laden with taxes, and that there should nothing come upon you which was grievious to be born Mosiah 2:14

Shadow of :

„For behold, I God have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent“ D&C 19:17
