A direct threat to the church education system. BYU

Obama’s Crackdown On For-Profit Colleges Will Reduce Educational Opportunities
Now we have a new Orwellian euphemism to add to the list: the 841 page “gainful employment” regulation, which will kill jobs and destroy opportunities for working adults to advance in their careers.

With the gainful employment regulation, the Department of Education would disqualify any program offered by a for-profit college from accepting student loans if its graduates, on average, have monthly student loan payments in excess of 8 percent of their monthly income. The regulation also sets a threshold on the percentage of students who can default on their loans.

While the regulation would also apply to certificate programs offered by non-profit institutions, it would apply to all programs – from certificate through doctoral – offered by for-profit schools.

University Introduces Affirmative Action Grading
“Suppose there were a surge of interest in a high demand field such as computer science,” he said. “Under the ‘equity’ policy, it seems that some of those who want to study this field would be told that they’ll have to choose another major because computer science already has ‘enough’ students from their ‘difference’ group.”

“Professors, instead of just awarding the grade that each student earns, would apparently have to adjust them so that academically weaker, ‘historically underrepresented racial/ethnic’ students perform at the same level and receive the same grades as academically stronger students.”

Border official points gun at Boy Scout
DES MOINES, Iowa —A central Iowa Boy Scout troop just returned from a three-week trip they will likely never forget.

About 10 days into the trip, an innocent action by one of the nearly two dozen Scouts at the Canadian border into Alaska set off a chain of events that lead to a U.S. border official pointing a gun at a scout’s head.

Boy Scout Troop 111 Leader Jim Fox spelled out what happened to him and the Mid-Iowa Boy Scout Troop 111 as four van-loads of Scouts and adult volunteers tried to drive from Canada into Alaska.

Fox said one of the Scouts took a picture of a border official, which spurred agents to detain everyone in that van and search them and their belongings.

“The agent immediately confiscated his camera, informed him he would be arrested, fined possibly $10,000 and 10 years in prison,” Fox said.

Fox said he was told it is a federal offense to take a picture of a federal agent.

Not wanting things to escalate, Fox said he did not complain.

Another of the Scouts was taking luggage from the top of a van to be searched when something startling happened.

“He hears a snap of a holster, turns around, and here’s this agent, both hands on a loaded pistol, pointing at the young man’s head,” Fox explained.

Fox said that had them all in fear.

I wonder if this is true, what the Border Agent said?

How could taking a photo be a federal offense?

But it does remind me of my first trip into the USSR (before the Berlin wall came down).
We entered by train from Finland. At the first stop inside Russia, I saw some military-looking guys with bright red caps loading into a truck... I snapped a photo. One of them saw me and came running towards me, shouting "Ni Photographuria"!!! over and over.

However, I was on an elevated platform near the train (maybe 60 feet above him), and I turned and got on the train. I was not harassed... just warned.

U.S. State Department Says: We’re the Good Guys, and Russians Are Liars … So Just Take Our Word For It
In the following 5-minute clip from a question and answer session between State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf and the American press, the U.S. State Department more or less says:

We’re the good guys who tell the truth, and Russians are liars.

Forget Iraq … that’s ancient history.

So just trust us.

EMS on Modified Duty, Cop Stripped of Badge in Chokehold Arrest Death
On Saturday, Officer Daniel Pantaleo was placed on modified assignment pending further investigation into the arrest of 43-year-old Eric Garner, which was captured on a cellphone video that showed the 43-year-old saying "I can't breathe, I can't breathe" as he was brought to the ground by an officer using a chokehold, a tactic prohibited by NYPD policy.

'Guns are Welcome' signs posted at Maryville family restaurant
(WBIR-Maryville) Gun control is a hot topic across the country, and one East Tennessee restaurant owner is making her opinion very clear by posting a 'Guns are Welcome' sign on the front door of her family-friendly establishment.

"As the owner, I wanted to stand my ground. I have that constitutional right. If you like it, that's great, if you don't, I'm sorry for you. I can't change who I am," said Sharma Floyd, with Shiloh Brew and Chew.

Cop suspended after threatening to "knock out" bystander during arrest
A police officer in Staffordshire, England, was suspended from duty this week after threatening a bystander during an arrest.

The Stoke Sentinel reports that cops were dealing with a rowdy group of late-night revelers in the city of Hanley. When a woman began filming the arrest of her boyfriend, however, she was approached by a bobby and "verbally abused."

Video footage shows an officer saying "Do that to me again and I will knock you out." It's not clear what she had done, though the officer seems to suggest a punch was thrown his way--or why being knocked out would be an appropriate response to it.

"I'm not knocking the police and the policeman we first spoke to was really nice," the 22-year old filmer told a reporter. "After this all happened he spoke to us and he was really calm. But I don't know where that one particular guy came from and I don't know why he threatened me."

3 Nephi 21:12
12 And my people who are a remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles, yea, in the midst of them as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep, who, if he go through both treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

3 Nephi 20:16
16 Then shall ye, who are a remnant of the house of Jacob, go forth among them; and ye shall be in the midst of them who shall be many; and ye shall be among them as a lion among the beasts of the forest, and as a young lion among the flocks of sheep, who, if he goeth through both treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
Illegal Immigration And Gangs: Someday Our Cities Will Burn Because We Didn’t Protect Our Borders
Did you know that the number of illegal immigrants that enter Texas each week is greater than the number of babies being born to citizens of that state? The mainstream media is shining the spotlight very brightly on all of the children that are coming over, and there is a reason for that. They are trying to tug on our heartstrings. But there is another part of the story that you aren't hearing much about. By refusing to protect our borders, Barack Obama has allowed hundreds of thousands of gang members to illegally enter the United States and settle in our major cities. In many communities, gang activity is already wildly out of control, and someday our cities will burn because of the foolishness of the federal government.

City settles gun permit posting suit
When city officials pulled the trigger in 2012 by posting details on gun-permit appeals online, they considered it a public service. Now the data have become a $1.4 million public expense.

The Nutter administration said Tuesday it had settled a class-action lawsuit with 3,265 Philadelphians who were denied a license to carry firearms by the Police Department or had a permit revoked and then appealed to the Department of Licenses and Inspections, which posted the information online.

Historic Battle of Athens Sheriff’s Department Gets Military Makeover
Fast forwarding to the present day, Nashville’s News Channel 5 is reporting that police militarization has erupted into a full-blown scandal in Tennessee. Under the Department of Defense’s surplus weapons program, Tennessee police departments have received an unusually huge order of military weapons including grenade launchers, M-16s, and Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles. As an example, the rural McMinn County Sheriff’s Department, once coincidentally the focus of the historic Battle of Athens, was mistakenly given over five military weapons per person, despite only having 31 officers. Said McMinn County Sheriff Guy of the shipment, “Well, we don’t need this many. There was a little error in the order… They’re here as our department grows. We’ll have additional firearms for future officers.” It’s worth noting that DOD rules require police departments to return unnecessary surplus weapons. Due to this mistake, it is likely that the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department is now one of the most militarized sheriff’s departments in the United States.

Air Algerie Plane, With 116 On Board, Falls Off Radar
LONDON (CNN) An Air Algerie flight with 116 people on board has dropped off radar, prompting a search for the missing plane, the airline's operator said Thursday.

Flight 5017 lost radar contact 50 minutes after takeoff from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, early Thursday. It was supposed to arrive at Algiers' Houari Boumediene Airport about four hours later.

The plane, an MD-83, was carrying 110 passengers, two pilots and four crew members. The MD-83 is part of the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 family of twin-engine, single-aisle jets.

The plane belongs to a private Spanish company, Swiftair, but it appears to have been operated by Air Algerie.

"We have lost contact with the plane," Swiftair said.

"At this moment, emergency services and our staff are working on finding out more on this situation."

Air Algerie said via Twitter, "Unfortunately, for the moment we have no more information than you do. We will give you the latest news live."

The tweet appears since to have been deleted.

France is actively seeking more information about the location of the missing flight, following unconfirmed reports that many French citizens may have been on board.

"We are entirely mobilized in Paris as well as in Algiers and Ouagadougou where our embassies are in constant contact with local authorities and the airline," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that a hotline number has been established.

Air Algerie is Algeria's national airline, with flights to 28 countries.

The deadliest incident in the airline's history occurred in March 2003 when a domestic flight crashed after takeoff, killing 102 people on board. One person survived.

In February, a Hercules C-130 military aircraft crashed in the mountains of eastern Algeria, killing 77 of the 78 people on board.

The MD-83's disappearance comes exactly a week after a Malaysia Airlines plane was brought down in Ukraine with 298 people on board.

By Claudia Rebaza and Laura Smith-Spark

CNN's Brian Walker and Saeed Ahmed contributed to this report.
