Billionaire wealth reaches new high during COVID-19 pandemic...
ZURICH, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Billionaire wealth reached record high levels amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a report by UBS and PwC found, as a rally in stock prices and gains in technology and healthcare helped the wealth of the world's richest break the $10 trillion mark.
The report, covering over 2,000 billionaires representing some 98% of the cohort's total wealth, found billionaire wealth grew by more than a quarter during the early months of the pandemic to reach $10.2 trillion in July, breaking the previous record of $8.9 trillion at the end of 2019.
The figure represents a five- to ten-fold rise over the past 25 years, the span covered by the UBS and PwC database, when billionaire wealth stood at just over $1 trillion.

Police try to shut down celebration during Jewish holiday. Cuomo issues new 'draconian' measures, and community comes together to burn masks in the street. - TheBlaze
A large group of Orthodox Jews took to the streets in Brooklyn on Monday in celebration of Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Police attempted to intervene but were pushed out by revelers.
Following the event, New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced what he referred to as a "cluster action initiative" — an attempt to target red zone hot spot areas such as Brooklyn and Queens, as well as Broome, Orange, and Rockland counties across the state.
Cuomo's announcement then prompted a second mass group to converge on the city's streets on Tuesday, and its members burned their masks in response.

Over half of voters expect violence, disagree on election legitimacy
WASHINGTON – Bill Fry, 61, is a supporter of President Donald Trump in rural Ohio who doesn't share much in common politically with Matt Edelman, 29, a Joe Biden backer in Brooklyn, New York.
Except this: They both worry about the legitimacy of the upcoming presidential election and fear an outcome that appears tainted could heighten the nation's already frayed psyche and exacerbate violence in the streets.
They're not alone. A new poll shows a large swath of Americans harbor deep reservations about the election results weeks before Election Day and are concerned about what actions people might resort to as a consequence.
The YouGov poll of 1,999 registered voters found that nearly half – 47% – disagree with the idea that the election "is likely to be fair and honest." And that slightly more than half – 51% – won't "generally agree on who is the legitimately elected president of the United States." The online poll was conducted Oct.1-2 and has a margin of error of +/- 2.56 percentage points.

Massachusetts Voters Will Decide (Again) Who Is Allowed To Fix Their Cars – Reason.com
Millions of dollars are being spent to woo Massachusetts voters over a ballot proposition not about taxes, drug policy, or labor laws, but about how your car gets repaired and who is allowed to access your car's data.
This November, Massachusetts voters will vote on a "right to repair" initiative, Question 1, that would establish that car manufacturers have to permit vehicle owners and independent repair facilities to access a car's diagnostic data.
Supporting Question 1 is a coalition of auto parts stores and independent repairers who say they're being left behind as auto manufacturers choose who can be authorized to access the increasingly complex computerized data. Supporters have contributed more than $21 million to get Question 1 passed.
Opposing Question 1 is a group of auto manufacturers (including General Motors, Ford, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan) under the umbrella of the Coalition for Safe and Secure Data. They have contributed more than $25 million to defeat the effort.
Massachusetts voters already weighed in on this in 2012 and voted to allow consumers and auto repair shops to have open access to vehicle diagnostic data. But over the past few years, auto manufacturers have increasingly implemented systems that transmit a car's diagnostic information wirelessly to remote locations—known as telematics, technology also used for GPS tracking.

Tides Center Funnels $170 Million in Taxpayer Money to Left-Wing Groups
Nearly $170 million in government grants has passed through a liberal dark money behemoth that houses numerous left-wing groups, including the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, tax forms show.
The taxpayer-funded grants were disbursed to groups through the Tides Center, a San Francisco-based nonprofit incubator that wealthy liberal donors use to bankroll progressive causes. A number of radical left-wing groups have fallen under the auspices of the Tides Center, which acts as a "fiscal sponsor" to nonprofits by providing its 501(c)(3) tax and legal status. This arrangement lets the groups under its umbrella avoid registering with the IRS.

Biden Said He Would Make Roe v. Wade “The Law of the Land”
by Warren Mass October 7, 2020
Speaking at a town hall event in Miami on October 5, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, was asked what he would do if Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett were if confirmed and helped to overturn Roe v. Wade decision that struck down many state and federal laws restricting abortion.
“Number 1, we don’t know exactly what she would do. Although, the expectation is that she may very well overrule Roe,” Biden replied. “The only response to that would be to pass legislation making Roe a law of the land. That’s what I would do.”
President Trump was quick to react to Biden’s statement, tweeting: “Joe Biden just took a more Liberal position on Roe v. Wade than Elizabeth Warren at her highest.”
“He also wants to PACK our great United States Supreme Court. This is what the Dems will do. Remember as they try changing positions before elections end. GET OUT AND VOTE!,” the president added.
An October 6 Forbes report noted that Biden has repeatedly stated his position on Roe v. Wade on multiple occasions while campaigning this year.
Biden said during a February Democratic primary debate in Manchester, New Hampshire, that if the Supreme Court ruled that abortion was unconstitutional, he would initiate writing Roe v. Wade into U.S. law.
“If they ruled it to be unconstitutional, I will send it to the United States Congress, and it will pass I believe, a bill that legislates Roe v. Wade adjusted by [Planned Parenthood v.] Casey,” Biden said. “It’s a woman’s right to do that. Period.”
Since Trump also referred to Warren, it is interesting to read what she said during that February debate, as well.
“If we are going to protect the people of the United States of America, and we are going to protect our rights to have dominion over our own bodies, then it’s going to be we can’t simply rely on the courts,” she said. “Three out of every four people believe right now that the rule of Roe v. Wade should be the law. That means we should be pushing for a congressional solution as well. It is time to have a national law to protect the right of a woman’s choice.” ["Dominion over our own bodies"?? Cool - then no mandatory vaccines, no mask-wearing.]
Forbes noted that Biden has also played up his role in rejecting former President Ronald Reagan’s Supreme Court nominee, Robert Bork, when he was in the Senate. Democrats at the time argued that if Bork, a conservative, was on the court, he would vote to roll back abortion legalization.
An April 9 article in The New American quoted the president of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List, Marjorie Dannenfelser, who said: “It has long been clear that [Biden] would be as extreme as they come on abortion, no matter what.”

On Thursday, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that for fiscal year 2020, which ended September 30, the US deficit hit $3.13 trillion -- or 15.2% of GDP -- thanks to the chasm between what the country spent ($6.55 trillion) and what it took in ($3.42 trillion) for the year.

Understanding Governor Cuomo’s Hostility Towards Jews – Reason.com
Let's start our history in the mid-Fourteenth Century. Throughout Europe, Jews were scapegoated for spreading the Black Death. Rumors spread that Jews poisoned food, water, and even the air. Stop me if you've heard this one before.
In response to the outbreaks, there were violent attacks against the Jewish. Pogroms spread in France, Spain, Germany, and Swiss, where many Jews were lynched. Other Jews were tortured, and forced to "confess" that they were responsible for the plague. According to one account, a Jew in Geneva confessed to importing poison from Venice, and pouring it into a cistern. In Basel, an entire Jewish community was burned to death. On February 14, half of the Jewish population of Strasbourg was burned alive. The other half were expelled. The pogrom became known as the Strasbourg Massacre. And there were many more such mass killings. The situation became so dire that Pope Clement issued an order to halt the persecution. He observed that the Plague has afflicted the Jews as well.

In this instance, it would seem, the administration's support for religious freedom has been trumped by its solicitude for law enforcement agencies, which is also at the root of its opposition to ending qualified immunity. In addition, the administration that imposed a a series of discriminatory travel bans targeting Muslims may not be eager to crack down abuses of religious freedom where Muslims are often the primary victims.

Can the free exercise of religion be anything but essential? Can the sole method of obtaining a firearm be deemed non-essential? And under controlling Supreme Court precedent, can abortions be deemed mere elective surgeries? This article provides an early look at how the courts have interpreted the First, Second, and Fourteenth Amendments during the time of pandemic.
Part I begins with a detailed survey of the emergency lockdown measured issued in March and April of 2020. First, we will study the limits placed on religious worship. Second, we will review how Governors regulated firearm stores—the sole means in many states by which people can obtain a gun. Third, we will recount how four states interpreted their ban on "non-essential" surgeries to prohibit certain types of abortions.

'Our worst nightmare': will militias heed Trump's call to watch the polls? | World news | The Guardian
In the final minutes of last week’s televised presidential debate, a few days before he tested positive for Covid-19, Donald Trump was asked by the moderator, Chris Wallace, whether he would call on his supporters to stay calm and desist from civil unrest in the immediate aftermath of next month’s election.
