Man disappears, then along with the whole of Florida, sinks in a hole.

Yep. And that's the end of Florida.

I wonder if there are sinkholes in California.

I just heard about this sinkhole, even though the article is dated March.

Experts in Chile on Tuesday were investigating the appearance of an enormous sinkhole, bigger than a tennis court, that has appeared near a copper mine in the Atacama desert.

Experts were dispatched to examine the hole, some 32 meters (104 feet) across and twice as deep, which appeared in an area about 800 kilometers (nearly 500 miles) north of Santiago over the weekend, the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin) said in a statement

That sucker must have gotten hungry again. Perhaps filling it with gravel and such will sufficiently fill its tummy.

This one is happier: https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/sink ... police-say
A 70-year-old woman in New York fell into a 6-foot-deep hole after a sinkhole opened while she was walking through her front yard.

The incident occurred on Jan. 26 in Huntington Station, a census-designated place in Suffolk County, Long Island, according to a report from FOX 5 New York.

Two men attempted to rescue the woman, but they both fell into the hole as well.
The sinkhole measured approximately six feet in width and depth, according to officers who arrived at the scene.

"One of the officers, aided by a bystander, reached into the hole and pulled one person to safety," the Suffolk County Police Department’s public information officer wrote. "In the meantime, a second officer retrieved a ladder from a neighbor and placed it in the hole for the remaining two people to climb out."

The sinkhole seems to have a specific circumference, for now. I don't know why they don't make a flat fence over the top, much larger, instead of filling it and just let it be. They already have a double fence around it. They could make the cover the size of that space. It seems silly to keep filling it. It just washes away again.

Upper peninsula Michigan has several of those sink holes. In Caspian where my family resides, has mining tunnels all under it. They have since filled with water and collapse periodically. My cousin tells me a car traveling on a road outside of town disappeared in a collapse.

Your idea makes a lot more sense plus it would be quicker and less expensive.
