Ewww! Okay, here's the parasite story:Penstress wrote:The thought of parasites. In my body!!! Stay away from...... Pork.
One night while we were living in Korea my baby woke me up. I quickly took care of her but as I tried to go back to sleep, I heard a noise that sounded way too much like a mouse scratching and nibbling, so I got up and turned on the light. The sound didn't stop or slow down at all, so I figured there weren't any mice in the room, but I still wondered where the noise was coming from and couldn't sleep as long as I could hear it. After trying to sleep one more time, I turned back on the light and made a thorough search of the room. I finally found the source of the noise: a bug slowly making its way through a plastic bag.
This type of bug usually skittered quickly around, but this particular bug was barely able to wobble along. I easily killed it and then went over to the light switch to turn the light back off. But before I turned off the light, I wanted to make sure the bug was really dead, and since one leg was still moving around, I waited for it to stop before turning off the light.
But it never stopped moving. In fact, the movements got bigger and bigger. It took me only a minute or two to see what it really was. I immediately woke up my husband and pointed out the bug. He got close to see what was going on but then quickly jumped back. A black worm, at least 6 inches long, was wriggling its way out of the dead bug.
"That's a parasite!" my husband exclaimed.
"Uh, huh," I replied, having figured that out quite some time ago.
My knight in shining armor then captured the beast in a plastic bag which he tightly tied and disposed of in the outside trash. We cleaned the spot on the floor where the parasite had been with vinegar. And then I went back to bed.
Only I still couldn't sleep.
