Texas Students Instructed To Design A New Socialist Flag

Texas students were told to make a flag for a “new socialist nation” and to use symbols of communism and socialism in the presentation. The public school curriculum has drawn a lot of backlash from both parents and communities across the state.
CSCOPE is a non-profit educational program. The organization is an “offshoot” of the Education Services Centers which began in 1965. Members of the Texas Senate Education Committee had detailed discussions with CSCOPE curriculum creators during a hearing on Thursday. Multiple witnesses stated during the hearing that the CSCOPE system promotes far-left and anti-Christian values, the Star-Telegram reports.
Information in the CSCOPE socialist flag lesson included:
“Socialist/communist nations use symbolism on their flags representing various aspects of their economic system. Imagine a new socialist nation is creating a flag and you have been put in charge of creating the flag. Use symbolism to represent aspects of socialism/communism on your flag. What kind of symbolism/colors would you use?”
CSCOPE Region 13 Director Wade Lebay stood by the curriculum plan, The Blaze notes. Lebay believes that the program is “powerful” because it is designed by teachers. Texas Senator Larry Taylor asked if such a curriculum gives the appearance that the state is sympathizing with socialism and communism style nations.
The CSCOPE curriculum also refers to the Boston Tea Party as an act of terrorism. An excerpt from the lesson pertaining to the Revolutionary War era reads:
“Local militia, believed to be a terrorist organization, attacked the property of private citizens today at our nation’s busiest port. Although no one was injured in the attack, a large quantity of merchandise, considered to be valuable to its owners and loathsome to the perpetrators, was destroyed. The terrorists, dressed in disguise and apparently intoxicated, were able to escape into the night with the help of local citizens who harbor these fugitives and conceal their identities from the authorities. It is believed that the terrorist attack was a response to the policies enacted by the occupying country’s government. Even stronger policies are anticipated by the local citizens.”
