Not Opening Up China

Had Stake Conference this weekend. Great event. Only had one very interesting and unexpected thing come from the Stake President: he said "if you hear that missionaries are getting their calls changed to China tell them it isn't true. Elder Nelson recently made a statement that an Internet rumor indicating the Church was sending missionaries to China and he asked all Stake Presidents to squelched the rumor and that it wasn't true."

FWIW, the Stake President also said that most of what you read about the Church online outside of official Church websites isn't true either and that if we were faithful Latter-Day Saints we would spend most of our time online there versus other venues. He specifically spoke out against Facebook for our youth.

China won't open because Taiwan isn't ready. If you want China to open, concentrate on Taiwan. Pres. Kimball said so.
It's that simple.

Technically Hong Kong is China since Great Brittan gave it back. :)
