I know this was posted a year ago or so, but after an hour of searching, and not being able to find it, I was hoping someone would share a reliable place to buy silver in the Salt Lake area. Thanks in advance.

Rust Rare Coin in SLC has fair prices. They post buy and sell prices for generic, silver eagles and junk silver. .90 silver halves are a good deal there as well as Silver Eagles,if they have them in stock.

I was going to recommend Rust Coin also. I have always been happy dealing with them in the Provo location, and I thought they had a store in SLC as well.

Caveat, though -- wife sold some silver to Rust coin in Provo/Orem in Dec 2012, and they paid only (spot minus $1.50 per coin). Needed the money for costs incident to our moving out of Utah, so we sold... my wife was in tears.
Maybe they offer more now, about a month later?

It all depends on the market, Dr. Jones. Sometimes they are selling silver at only $1.00 over spot, and at those times they pay a good bit below spot. At other times I have seen them paying a bit over spot, and their sell price might be $3 or $4 over spot.

Usually if they are paying below spot, I would recommend selling on KSL classified or something like that. Almost everything sold there is at least $1/oz over spot, and if you were to list at spot I expect you would see a lot of action. (Of course there is always the concern that someone might try to rob you...)

The Provo and SLC rust coins are different businesses (owners are apparently brothers). The Provo location will try to rip you off when selling to them, honestly. I'll drive the extra miles to SLC - they show their buy prices on the website and it's a much better deal.

If you're selling, though, I've had good luck listing stuff on KSL and just offering to meet people at a bank or other public location. Ebay can also be good when the prices are on the way up.

+1 for Rust Rare Coin in SLC (haven't tried the Provo location). They have always been professional, honest, and have decent prices.
