Can some people become above the law?

I like the statement from the mayor. What would cause a politician to fear a citizen and a veteran with a handgun?

Notice how many 'citizens' also left the chamber and who's now sitting behind the veteran with the CC. What a sad bunch of....

This was uncomfortable to watch. First of all how disrespectful they were toward a vet and second all those folks who walked out. This is proof that this country is going downhill quickly. I felt like crying when I watched this as he seemed like a sincere vet who was simply speaking the truth about the 2nd amendment. I feel bad for that vet...

How about the guy who interrupts the Mayer saying should we motion to dismiss. Very sad :(

That is very sad in so many ways! I hope that Mayor gets flooded with calls about how disrespectful and stupid it was to do that!

Well, that Mayor certainly stood tall, in my estimation! The State's Attorney spoke the truth, as well, but he seemed a bit weak in HOW he said it.

I have to give those CC credit for voting against the idiot's proposed ruling. I believe the Mayor & State's Attorney would have overruled such a proposition had it passed, but at least the majority in this case understood where their allegiance is centered.

I found this hopeful in more respects than not.

It was rather odd to see the 'chamber' empty out like that. Idiots and cowards! I've witnessed similar abandoning of ship by rats when they didn't want to 'take a stand' for Truth, Justice, & Liberty. They simply disappear. Those are the ones you DO NOT TRUST when things get really really bad. It's good to be involved in these types of hearings so you can begin to 'read' where you stand compared to your neighbors and extended community.

What I meant by telling the Mayor that-wasn't because of what He said(necessarily)- but to tell him that the councilman and others were disrespectful and stupid for doing that....I should've said it that way... :-B to me there was really no call to walk out...

As the mayor pointed out, those two council members clearly violated their oaths to the constitution. Shouldn't they be discharged from office? What does the oath count for if they can get away with flagrantly violating it? That is the big problem here. There is no one holding these people accountable to their oaths at any level of government. Whether it be a lowly city council member or senator Feinstein, they should be removed from office when they violate their oath.

MsEva, I sure wasn't contradicting what you hoped would happen. It seems to me, that Mayor would be glad to have people call with their support of his position and to also express their opinion regarding the councilman's rude behavior and the ridiculous 'walk out' of those attending.

We attended a so-called property tax increase 'hearing' in October. I spent nearly 18 hours comparing the 2012 budget with the 'proposed' 2013 budget and had a lot of questions. After the first 15 minutes of my asking specific questions regarding WHY there were such large increases in the Sheriff's Department for things that simply didn't make sense, the County Commission Chairman told us to "shut-up or be thrown out of the building".

A political crony from the neighboring county was a visitor. He made the comment, "Yeah, they come &!@$#%$@ to our County meetings, too."

I really cut loose then. We weren't kicked out; and by golly, that room was very quiet for a few moments.

They then blazed through the entire 62 page 2013 budget and approved every 'proposed' increase. So much for 'hearings'.

More people need to show up. Those in positions of public 'service' who are living off of and making decisions regarding our labor and property need to be held accountable.

Bg, I see what you mean.

That is so wrong that the County Commission Chairman told you to shut up X( X( I am glad you didn't and said what you wanted. It is crazy that the Sheriffs Office (and other agencies) make large increases like that and do not listen to any who oppose no matter what their reason.

Well, yes, it is wrong!

The problem being, a lot of people WILL complain about property tax increases and how 'politicians' use our tax dollars, BUT they do NOT show up for these 'hearings', or are way too timid and easily 'convinced' of what they are told by those who have assumed authority over us.

When I picked up copies of the 2012 & 2013 budgets the day before the 'hearing', the County Auditor expressed her own concern about the amount of money being 'moved around' in ways NOT specifically accounted for in the actual budget document. I have no way of proving any of that within 36 hours from the time I receive the copies until the actual 'hearing'. The very fact that there was so little time from the newspaper announcement of the hearing and the actual meeting allowed only one day to go over the 'proposed budget'.

The term 'hearing' was purely decorative, as was the term 'proposed'. The budget was not 'proposed'; it was a done deal.

It is vital that people attending these meetings know that the Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land, Article VI, second paragraph. When they hear these types of folks that think they're above the law in trying to take away another person's rights...they need to be reminded that they have no power in such an action. Additionally, Judges are bound to uphold the Supreme law of the land.

Article VI
...This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

Therefore, just what part of this paragraph do people like those huffy individuals in the video, not understand, nor comprehend?

Those officers either don't know the law, or they're out to harass every one they think looks at them crosseyed. They certainly could care less about the Constitution and their oath to defend it. Perhaps the County Sheriff's coming out and upholding the Constitutional rights of the citizens to own and bear arms will wake those individuals up.

This video is classic on so many levels. This video should be shown in every police academy and in-service training in the US.

The problem with LEOs today is they are not trained on how to be law enforcement officers. LEOs today are trained on how not to be a liability to the department when they are patrolling the streets. They are trained how to go through the motions of their training - the procedure. Even tools such as CIT and MI are programmed into them. We have lost common sense and the ability to think on our own.

This is the same problem we have with politicians, lawyers, and LEOs. They are not taught the Constitution, they are taught the law. Huge difference!

My officers know that if they stop someone they had better be able to cite the violation immediately, because if you can't back up your claim at the moment it happened then how can you expect to back it up in front of the lawyers? They will tear you up and make you look really stupid!

I kind of wish CC classes were taught by LEOs so there could be an exchange between the law enforcement community and the people they serve. Both sides need to have an understanding where each other are coming from. Intelligent civilians like the one in the video could educate LEOs and LEOs can give intelligent civilians like the one on the video their perspective. Just a thought.
