Spencer W Kimball said this:
"For years we have heard of the role the elders could play in saving the Constitution from total destruction. But how can the elders be expected to save it if they have not studied it and are not sure if it is being destroyed or what is destroying it?

Therefore those caught in the bright light need to learn what the Constitution is and why we have it, thus providing them ways to escape getting that rundown feeling by a speeding vehicle.

In martial arts, one learns both offensive and defensive moves. Likewise, people should learn what their rights are, or guess what? They have none. They don't even know when a right has been taken away because they had no clue what they had, and that losing it only sent them closer to living under socialism...then they will finally awaken to the fact that they are now a slave to government. When will people come to realize that it is the people that should run the government...not the government running the people. Look at how much power the people have relinquished for the government to take hold and force a socialistic healthcare program down out throats. People are angered, after the fact, but had no idea that they could have prevented it from the beginning. 1st amendment rights of free speech and expression has been hampered by the government, why? because the people have allowed it. Why? because Americans have been complacent and apathetic toward the Constitution. They may as well have taken a writ into their state officials stating "here are all the rights that I didn't know I had and I'm letting you destroy the rest of them so I don't have to worry about having them in the future. From now on just tell me what you want me to do and that's fine with me."

We have been warned. Had Mormon's read the Book of Mormon and discovered that there are secret combinations and had done something to hamper them, we might not be in dire straights today.

We have been told that the church is under condemnation. Why? because had we read the BOM enough to understand that we could place ourselves in a position where wickedness rules, and we could have done something about it, we would have come to realize that the scriptures are akin to the Constitution...both geared for a righteous people.

Perhaps Lundbaek can articulate this better than I.

What, me articulate ? Others have said it better and nicer than I can.

"We must learn the principles of the U.S. Constitution in the tradition of the Founding Fathers" (President Benson, October 1987 General Conference), "We must....abide by its [the US Constitution's] precepts" (September 1987 The Ensign), and "We must be vigilant in doing our part to preserve the Constitution and safeguard the way of life it makes possible" (15 January 1987 First Presidency Message).

In the "last days" there shall be secret combinations according to the combinations of the devil (2 Nephi: 14, 26). We have been told to "suffer not" that these "murderous combinations" which are built up to get power and gain shall get above us. We have been told to awake to a sense of this "awful situation" because it is built up to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries (Moroni, as recorded in Ether 8: 23 - 25, and as we were reminded in the Article by President Boyd K. Packer in the August 2010 Ensign, Pg. 23).

In the preface to his book THE CLEANSING OF AMERICA Dr. W. Cleon Skousen described very well where I believe are now. "It will be a dark time when the Constitution is being abandoned, when economic turmoil boils on every level of society and government. It will be a time when people give up hope. The nation will be in the rip of a dark collapse. The people will begin to panic and wonder and start making foolish mistakes. They will abandon correct principles for patchwork solutions that only make things worse." He added "You'll know it when you see it." Well, I'm not convinced that near enough people see it, and even more did, those "murderous combinations" which have been build up to get power and gain have gotten too firmly above us.

lundbaek wrote:As I think back to the times when we heard and read the admonitions and commandments given to us that were intended to preserve the Constitution and freedom, I do not recall any follow-up from Church authorities at the local levels. In other words, the subject died. At least it seems to be what happened.

Another thing I am noticing now is that I am finding more members starting to awake to the existence of secret combinations and a conspiracy that they cannot describe but which is gaining more and more control over our government and our lives. But they do not know what to do about it, even when suggestions are given to them and when they are told and shown what previous prophets advised us to do. Many are like deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car at night.
We need a new Cleon Skousen, with a charge from the living Prophet, to pick up the work Cleon Skousen was doing under President McKay's charge.

Otherwise nobody will get anywhere with the clueless body of the Mormon Culture who are waiting for the IRS restricted LDS-Inc. to break out of it's box and begin advising on things like economic orders, that would get the Church's 501 (c) (3) exemption revoked and the temples confiscated.

The answer to the problem of how to do it in a church way, outside the restrictions placed upon the church, is right here. Who wants to be the next Stephen R. Covey? viewtopic.php?f=1&t=38137

I have the stuff to do the business of saving the constitution, but I need a guy to get into business with.

Who would think that saving the constitution would begin with getting people to have success in their businesses? Oh, wait, that was what David O. Mckay said was the way it was to be done when Cleon Skousen asked, "why him," and "Provo?" (where so many world renowned business successes were soon to begin), when President McKay could have asked BYU to do what he was asking Cleon to do.

God Bless,
Darren

I do not expect we will get a charge any time soon from the living Prophet to revive the Constitution and work to protect our freedoms. I hope I am very wrong, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em. If fact, for a while I had been concerned that the Lord wanted the topic muzzled. It has been only the occasional comment by an apostle that has kept my hope and enthusiasm alive. For example, Elder Dallin Oaks said last year during a KSL Radio interview "I see it as a responsibility for well-educated citizens, members of the bar and opinion leaders to be acquainted with the United States Constitution and its guarantees." Even though he said that in a radio interview and not in a situation where he was speaking to the entire Church, it still tells me that the Constitution is still important. I understand "opinion leaders" to include Church authorities on the local levels, including area seventies, stake and district presidents, and bishops and branch presidents. And then there was Elder Oaks' 17 September 2010 Constitution Day talk in the Tabernacle ( http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/f" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... lin-h-oaks ) in which he said:

"We should, of course, always be vigilant to insist that our governments and their executives, lawmakers and judges stay within the limits prescribed by our constitutions. That is part of the rule of law, and all of the blessings enjoyed under our constitutions are dependent upon it. President J. Reuben Clark, an honored authority on the Constitution, declared that “our allegiance run to the Constitution and to the principles which it embodies, and not to individuals. All that we say about the Constitution and our reliance upon it depends upon the rule of law and not of the men or women who hold the offices under it.”[1]

"There is need for public praise of our constitutions and their principles. A rising generation of influential opinion makers seems to place a lesser value on the United States Constitution. An example of that was related to me by a recent law graduate. In a panel discussion at the Harvard Law School, a professor of constitutional law criticized the United States Constitution in harsh terms. Another faculty panelist speculated that if his colleague’s criticisms were valid we might as well just take our written constitution and “roll it and smoke it.” That kind of disdain for our national constitution is more than concerning."

lundbaek wrote:How Mormons have failed America

Mormons are the only people on this planet who have been told by the Lord that He established the Constitution of the United States. And He told them how: that He established it by the hands of wise men whom He raised up unto that very purpose. He even told them that it was to be maintained for the rights and protection of all people, and that its princples were to be established forever.

Mormons have been told of the vital importance of learning the principles of the US Constitution as it was meant to be understood, and of defending, upholding and adhering to its principles.

Unfortunately, Mormons have failed America by not being united in upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States. Not only have they ignored the admonitions in their scriptures and from their prophets and apostles to study, uphold, and abide by the principles of the US Constitution, but they have also largely ignored the warnings about secret combinations among them striving to gain control over their government and steal their wealth.

According to statements in the Doctrine and Covenants and recorded statements especially of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Orson Pratt, John Taylor, Melvin J. Ballard, J. Reuben Clark, Harold B. Lee, and Ezra Taft Benson, it appears that God committed to Americans the task of learning and upholding the principles of the US Constitution as it was intended to be understood by the Lord such that by example those principles would reverberate to other nations where people would desire to live by its precepts and choose to be governed by them, and those principles would be established forever. Interesting that those statements were given specifically to Latter-day Saints.

Members of the LDS Church are the only people who have the prophetic warnings about the secret combination striving to get power in the form of control of government and wealth. Although the Lord has given us the knowledge and the responsibility to help reveal and oppose this secret combination, it seems that we have not had the wisdom to act on it, and consequently that conspiracy has gotten above us.

Mormons have been singled out to perform a divine mission to preserve the US Constitution from destruction. And we may yet be called upon as a people to exert great influence in helping to restore and preserve all of the liberties and freedoms vouchsafed to us in the Constitution of this land. The Lord revealed to his prophets that the greatest threat to the United States would be a vast, world-wide "secret combinsation" which would strive to destroy the US Constitution and overthrow the freedom of all nations.

But because of this failure on the part of the Mormon people, many others whom they might have inspired to study, embrace, and abide by the principles of the Constitution have been denied the opportunity to learn and act on those principles.

It appears that the previous post proved Lunbaek's point about how many Mormon's think, unless BS has another connotation.

When any of us do this:
