The old school format does't allow me to vote but I'm fine with it and I live in Utah.

This is the first poll I have tried. Did I mess up somehow where you couldn't vote?

No, I prefer to use the old school format which doesn't allow me to vote. It's not you, it's me :))

5 for; 5 against

Parable of the 10 virgins comes to mind. I wonder who falls into which camp. :D

Keep voting people. EVERYBODY has an opinion on this one.

Not ignoring your poll. Just waiting for the "Don't Live in Utah, Don't Much Care" option. (It is an interesting debate, however.)

Also, be careful talking about the 10 virgins. I trademarked the term "Wise Virgins" a few years ago, and I'm pretty adamant about collecting the royalties.

Yeah, I forgot the "Don't care" option #-o

Duly noted regarding your trademarked term. I will tread lightly. ;)

10/10, still an even split. Will you be the one to break the tie?

Make that 11 against, 10 for (I share shadow's dilemma - prefer the old style look and thus, cannot vote). ;)

The old style will eventually go away, might as well enter the light and come out of darkness (i.e. start using the current forum style).

I'm okay with it and I live it Utah. Much bigger and more important matters facing the world and us. Why spend so much time bickering back and forth about a mall. Time for some to build a bridge and get over it!!!

If it were only a minor issue, but it's perhaps one of the biggest issues plaguing the church right now and tell those who have stopped paying tithing because of it to 'get over it'.

Nah... I like the old style better and if that means I can't vote, that's fine. If/when the old style goes away some day, shadow and I will just have to bear it, right shadowman? :ymhug: ;)

Why would you stop paying tithting because of the mall? Is paying tithing not a commandment? Do you think tithing was used to fund this project? If so where's your proof? The Church has stated that no tithing was used.

Seriously? People have decided to disobey a commandment because they got their panties in a wad over something like this? Okay, yes, we're all sinners in some way or another, but at least some sins are a little easier to understand than others. Breaking the Word of Wisdom or the Law of Chastity at least brings some illicit pleasure for a little while, even if it comes at a terrible cost later. Breaking the Law of Tithing because you don't have enough money to pay your bills is one thing, but to do so just because you're mad about something done by a "for profit" company the church owns seems akin to a child getting mad and holding their breath until they pass out or pee themself.

I'm so glad to be away from Utah and all its silliness.

Yes, there are people who have stopped paying tithing from this - and I don't think they all live in Utah. I don't know them, personally, though. The ones I know of are people I've met on the internet - or just read what they said there.

I live in Utah, but I abstain from the vote, as I have not spent a sufficient amount of time to ponder and pray regarding the matter, which is not under my stewardship. I understand both sides of the argument, however, my own opinion(s) on the matter constitutes nothing more than "my own understanding" or trusting the arm of my own flesh. This is as simple as I can clarify. So technically, I am undecided as there is no revelation regarding the matter.

Amen. A bunch of people left over the Kirtland bank, what a mistake that was for the people leaving.

I think Brian is trying to ban us both by doing away with the format our fathers began with and forcing us to enter the new age forum style. Dang dictator. Give a man a little power and authority...
:o)

Tithing is a commandment - but so are the ways that tithing is to be handled - with honesty & openness (God is light, not darkness & secrecy).
Also, God doesn't care so much about money, but rather how much we love others as ourselves... "on these 2 commandments hang all the laws and the prophets."
Currently, there are almost 1,000,000,000 (1 Billion) of our brothers & sisters starving - chronically hungry - according to the World Health Organization.

My tithes go to those in need, as Christ instructed & as instructed in Deut 14:28-29.

I just think it's wrong to try to distance church headquarters from the homeless and poor people. I would imagine that it would be symbolic of their position as Christ's disciples to have the homeless seeking out the area, but they've done everything they can to keep them away.

Oh, yeah, and then there's the matter of them not getting common consent on building it either. The church should be run by common consent.

The sifting has commenced. Fact is this- some are wheat and some are tares but agency allows the choice.

"Testimony alone is not and will not be enough to protect us in the latter-day storm of darkness and evil in which we are living. Testimony is important and necessary but not sufficient to provide the spiritual strength and protection we need. Some members of the Church with testimonies have wavered and fallen away. Their spiritual knowledge and commitment did not measure up to the challenges they faced." Elder Bednar
