It is nice to meet you Moses. I look forward to getting to know you better, and I am sure that there are things that we will learn from you as well.

The politics maybe foreign, but they will still give us a window into that world.

Since the foundation of our legislature came from England, I am interested in where things in England have gone. I have watched a few videos on youtube.com by a woman that is trying to restore things to what they were there, and that is about all I know. She was saying a lot about how the EU was superceeding the laws of England to the point where the judges could do nothing locally. I have seen a little bit of that too here.

Yes I believe that English Common law is the basis for many principles in the USA. I also think the Magna Carta was an influence in the constitution.

I would probably have had zero interest in USA where it not for Joining the Church many years ago. Now its like talking to my cousins.

I think the USA and Britain are the staunchest allies in the whole world.

Kind thoughts

Moses

It's hard not to feel a kinship with England having so many roots run back through there. I certainly do not have a problem arguing the merits of other ideologies. I hope that you enjoy the same because it looks like you're in for it! You have held up under fire better than I would have imagined thus far. I hope you'll give a bit of it back. Welcome.

I had a Brit on my (US) mission that enjoyed a raging cross waters rivalry. Wore a Union Jack tie pert near daily. Quite the show to observe through the cross-fire.

On my mission on the 4th July my companions and zone were celebrating. I asked why are you celebrating. And they said because thats when we threw the brits out of America. I said well Im a Brit and you are in England. forgive me if I dont celebrate with you. Ha ha, I said how can I celebrate a defeat of my own people. I did enjoy the Food and drink though that day in our zone in 1975. The Mission President then said, well we soon made up again. And now were like distant relatives.

He compared it to a child getting married and Mum wanting to interfere with what we do in our marriage. one day you tell mum you can manage without her now you have grown up. When she gets the message and agrees to leave your life to you, she is then welcome to drop in whenever she likes , as long as she recognises its your kitchen :)

Since I have European ancestors as well as Native American ancestors, I can't help but feel part of both continents. :)

In fact, I was realizing the other day, that the lineage I have actually reconnects the broken branch back to the vine....

Welcome Moses.

It is clear you and I are going to drive each other crazy with your crazy political ideas. You'll come around...

I actually love when people come and challenge ideas, it's good for all of us. Look forward to more conversations where I can set you straight.

(I'm a big girl, I can take it as well as I dish by the way)

Welcome Moses! I'm glad to see you posting here. I love to see this site become "worldwide". Don't let the political debates frustrate you to the point of leaving. I've had bouts with our friend from Australia, and fortunately we both still post here.

My ancestors are from England. My grandpa served a mission there in his youth, then in his later years (mid 1970's) he and my grandma went back for another mission.

I couldn't quite follow you, when you say your from England, currently living overseas, is that overseas from England? Let me rephrase that, Where do you now reside? I live at the "Fortress of Solitude" when I'm at home with my family, which is located in Cache Valley, northern Utah.

We lived well over 2 years up in the North Riding 76-78 and I got involved in the National Association for Freedom, or it may have been the National Freedom Association, which was about as close as one can get to the John Birch Society.

I have been thinking about why I got involved in USA politics/ It was the 2000 Election and we here saw that it is possible to get the majority of Popular votes and still fail to be president.

That was what I saw as completely unfathomable. and for 8 years the my USA friends have been telling me I dont understand , this and dont understand that. haha....

The theory is that we enlist our wise men to act in our best interest and exalt us above the average. Were that the case it would stand to reason that they would vote differently than we and it would come out better for it. But since we enlist/appoint/elect our "politicians," we end up with corruption, cronyism, nepotism, etc... Bit of a mess at the moment I think.

Moses,

I never properly welcomed you. Welcome! Glad to see some activity from NZed - that is where I served my mission. I spent the better part on the North Shore in Browns Bay and Milford. Ended up in Mt. Albert. Where abouts are you?

I served a mission in Sweden. I see where perhaps some of your ideas come from. :D

I mainly was in Orebro. I had a best friend there. Karlstad too. In norway I had some time in Bergen, and pottered around the lovely countryside.

I have 2000 Saab 9-5, so I beg to differ with your comment.
Although it's great when it works!

I guess that comment ticked off the Swedish gods. I started my car this morning and poof! my garage filled with smoke, a whole lot of smoke. I thought (hoped) that it was on fire, but it wasn't. Not sure what the problem is but I'll check it out this afternoon. The smoke came from under the hood, which is a better sign than from out the exhaust I suppose.
Hmm, maybe the neighbors cat crawled up in there somehow. I can only hope! Cat jerky anyone? Actually it smelled like burned rubber, so I'm guessing a belt.

I know ford stands for
Fix Or Repair Daily and something about a Rebuilt Dodge but I'm not sure what Saab stands for. Don't think I want to know.

That brings back memories of when my husband and I tried to repair a carburator on our old truck. It worked great, except the truck started on fire everytime we turned it over. Snow did a good job of putting out the flames though.

The best cars I've ever owned were old Chevy trucks. I kick myself for selling my last one, a 1981 GMC 3/4 ton. It had a 350 motor and a turbo 400 tranny. The best part was no rust! Rare for an old chevy. Too bad they don't hold many people.

Nothing like seeing gas boil on an intake manifold to make you nervous. I've never had a fire, but I've sure seen a lot of gas boil or vaporize!

How about Starts After Atrocious Beating?

Yes, we've owned a few chevy trucks. Right now we have an old crew cab long bed base model... not certain of the year. Bucket of rust with crappy torn seats, but runs like glass. I'll have to find a picture of it, never mind my big pregnant self sprawled across the fine machinery. The shell stayed on about a week, and hubby took it to the dump. He thinks shells make trucks into grandpamobiles. It's sitting unused now because we need to register it and it needs tires and a bottle of alcohol to pass s&e. Ugliest thing ever. We used to have a fantastic one ton '87 chevy that got about 8 miles to the gallon. It was such fun. We loved to race people in it, it also ran smooth as glass. In between we had a Chevy '86 I think if that's the last year they did carburated. It was fun. We did all our own repairs (except we got help with the carburator) and I learned all kinds of things from that truck.

Never had engine or tranny problems with any of the three chevy's. We had a new Chevy though for about half a year... it was a money pit and we HATED it.

That truck doesn't look like a rust bucket. I've seen rust buckets.

Yeah, come see it now.

You can't tell in the picture but that was a fresh at home paint job by the guy we bought it from. Now it looks quite a bit different.
