I sold "NEW" automobiles from 1973 to 1990ish...... im my day if you heard a car in the street in the earlry morning, and it would not start and you heard that final groan of the last bit of energy draining away. You could guarantee 90% that it was a Ford.

British Leyland ( whom I worked for 8 years) always started first time, and seldom broke down, however were notorious for oil leaks, on the driveway. (not including Jaguar Land rover and Rover Triumph. MG)

My favourite cars were the Lancias from Italy. but in Britain with the salt on the road in winter, they rotted quickly.

In New Zealand the favourite vehicles seem to to be, Toyota and Holden, which are a branch or General Motors, ( locally run )

I never had any problems with Volvo and Saab actually.

We now run Ford Escort and a Mitsubishi CRV. ( boring)

Ha! Now wonder I'm so big, that's three days before I went to the hospital, and six days before our son was born I just noticed from the date.

Yeah, Ford escorts are pretty hot cars.

My husband recently had to get a minivan. <edited>

Toyotas are good cars, we had a camry and loved it. They are an expensive tranny to replace though! That wasn't fun. Ford's do have a distinctive whiney sound to them.

You're a moderator ChelC, do you not think this may be over the line a little bit. The site rules say no profanity. Perhaps this could be considered such?

It is the proper name for a body part, but I guess it could offend someone.

I'll undo it.

Speaking of Chevy's and rust, I had to take this picture when I saw it. We salt pretty heavily here! Notice the reinforcement strap attached to the isthmus of rust!

Considering they basically were the Brits themselves I find that an interesting way to look at it.

And now us convicts can enjoy watching that empire in North America being hewn down and given to a more righteous people, ie the Lamanites. Unsure of that? Read 1st Nephi.

The circle keeps turning.

Welcome

SO whats this foreign politics you mention?

Never had engine or tranny problems with any of the three chevy's. We had a new Chevy though for about half a year... it was a money pit and we HATED it.

Ugly car. Didn't I see that in some Griswalds road trip movie? Or did Potsie drive that in happy Days episode?

Who'se the hot blond in the photo? She couldn't t be related to Jer?

As for the guy with his SAAB, yep, they say down here they are a special car. They say "once a SAAB driver..ALWAYS a SAAB driver"

Of course thats because they are such ugly cars that no-one will ever buy it from you

I'm so tempted to initiate the ever popular Ford vs. Chevy "debate."

Jbalm - we've had Chevy and Ford. There is no debate.

We actually liked Ford's and were Ford faithful early in our marriage, but we saw the light. :)

We went to a demolition derby (yes, we are white trash) and afterward they had a truck pull. Some egos in the audience got out of control and soon two brand spankin' new 3/4 tons were out in the arena. They hooked a chain between them to see who could pull who, between a Dodge and a Ford. Guess what happened? About 5 seconds into it the Ford started bucking and we all gasped in horror as his drive shaft BROKE OFF. After we picked our jaws off the ground and the owner got out and I presume had a good cry, we laughed our hineys off!

Ask my Dad how well he liked our Ford Bronco when he drove through a deep puddle and found out that the air intake is on the bottom.

Who cares about new trucks Chel? That Bronco was the very first year Ford had fuel injection and they fixed it the next year. I like Fords but I don't mind Chevy's or Dodges or Toyota's either. Ford's straight six is as good as it get's, their 390 FE is legendary. Chevy had the 350, it too was a great engine (with the distributor on the wrong side). If there was a real difference between them you'd see it, but you don't. Instead you see lots of Fords and lots of Chevys. Brand loyalty proves just one thing, and it ain't intelligence!

Two of our Chevy's have been 454s including the one we have now, and they've been great. Our in betweener was a 305? I think.

The old Ford's are a completely different story than new. That's true for Chevs also I guess, because we hated our new (new to us - it was a couple years old) Chevy which had tranny problems right off the bat.

I think trucks should work hard, so I prefer an old truck. When we were removing railroad ties from our yard and dropped one from the tractor right on the side of the bed, it was no big deal. When our neighbors backed into it and didn't tell us (argh!) it didn't have to be an ordeal, because it just gave the thing more character.

I forgot about that truck! Did you leave it in Logan or Gunlock?

Seth's uncle has the coolest old truck. I honestly don't know what it is, but I want to say GMC. It's really old and it has a dump bed. The horn sounds like it should be on a train. It's the loudest horn I've ever heard. Why are all the horns these days so... cute? Horns are not supposed to be polite.

Never had any trouble with my older Volvos but once parts started coming in from places other than Sweden the engines were never as good.

I did see a spectacular accident on the Banfield Freeway south of Portland, Oregon involving a new Mercedes and a new Volvo. No one was hurt but the Mercedes had to be towed from the scene. Although in a bit of a mess, the Volvo was able to leave on its own steam.
