Anybody heard of an "earthquake storm?"
We might just be having one.

Just a note in light of all the continuing earthquakes and
the devastating tsunami in Samoa:

In the October 2005 LDS General Conference Priesthood
session, President Gordon B. Hinckley gave a talk called
“If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear.” President Hinckley
discussed some of the natural disasters that have occurred
over the course of time, from the flood of Noah’s day to
Hurricane Katrina.

He then quoted the following scripture:

“For after your testimony cometh the testimony of earthquakes,
that shall cause groanings in the midst of her, and men shall fall
upon the ground and not be able to stand. And also cometh the
testimony of the voice of thunderings, and the voice of lightnings,
and the voice of tempests, and the voice of the waves of the sea
heaving themselves beyond their bounds.

And all things shall be in commotion; and surely, men’s hearts shall
fail them; for fear shall come upon all people.”
(Doctrine and Covenants 88:89-91)

He then said: “What we have experienced in the past was all
foretold, and the end is not yet. Just as their have been
calamities in the past, we expect more in the future, what do
we do?...”

“If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear.” (Doctrine and Covenants 38:30)
“Wherefore, stand ye in Holy Places and be not moved, until
the day of the Lord come.” (Doctrine and Covenants 87:8)
“We can so live that we can call upon the Lord for his protection
and guidance. This is a first priority. We cannot expect his help
if we are unwilling to keep his commandments…the best storehouse
is the family storeroom.”

Notice the depth (630 km is almost 400 miles) as well as
the magnitude of this latest quake in the Phillipines (which
by the way has also suffered 2 direct hits from typhoons in
the past 10 days).

Reminds me of this scripture:

"For after your testimony cometh the testimony of earthquakes,
that shall cause groanings in the midst of her, and men shall
fall upon the ground and shall not be able to stand." D&C 88: 89

Gosh, Sharon, you'd think the Lord is trying to get our attention or something!

The rest of the world still won't get it, though. It's just Mother Nature and she's always done things like this, they'll say. I remember when I was young and living in California. In RS I mentioned that calamities seemed to be getting more frequent (this was in the early 70's.) There had been a bad typhoon in Bangladesh that killed a lot of people. At the time there seemed to be a big worldwide calamity every couple of years and it would hit the news big time. Everyone just laughed at me and said it was the fact that we had better reporting and communication abilities....that nothing had really changed.

Now these large events are occurring so often that they're forgotten within a week or two. Yet, most people think that it's always been like this. Well, I've lived long enough to know that that just isn't the case. Things are speeding up at an astonishing pace. It seems like there are at least one or two major natural disasters almost weekly now. We've become used to hearing of them. We only seem to pay attention when it affects us directly.

We're watching the signs of the times.

And now there's a strange development on the other
side of the Earth from Indonesia:

The Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge has suddenly become
active in one specific spot that appears to be about
midway between Newfoundland (Canada) and Europe.

Oct 3 - 2 tremors of magnitude 4.9 - 30 minutes apart
Oct 4 - 2 tremors of magnitude 4.8 and 4.6 - 3hrs 30min apart
Oct 5 - 2 tremors of magnitude 4.8 and 5.2 - 18hrs 35min apart

Undersea volcanoes, maybe? Another major plate shift in
the works? Or is this Mother Earth's way of compensating
for stress? Time will tell...

We're having political, religious and economic earthquakes as well as real earthquakes.

California usually does NOT look like this.

Yellow represnts earthquakes in the last week, blue, the last day and red the last hour.

First it was the fires, then fiscal/financial collapse and now it looks like the big one might be brewing. Seems as though California and Indonesia are the Lord's two least favorite places right now.
