Gay Danish couples win right to marry in church..
Homosexual couples in Denmark have won the right to get married in any church they choose, even though nearly one third of the country's priests have said they will refuse to carry out the ceremonies.

Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
So, does this mean that the LDS Church must allow homosexual couples to marry in the Denmark Temple? I wonder what the Church will do? Close the temple? Allow gay marriage in the Denmark Temple?

Gays can now marry in any Church in Denmark - LDS Temple?!!!

If the Church allows it, will it be "continuing revelation" that will be so wonderful?
There is a temple in Denmark. Will it be closed, or will sodomites be allowed to be "married" there?Homosexual couples in Denmark have won the right to get married in any church they choose

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
This is even a question? I do not see the church marrying gay couples. Unlike the polygamy issue, this one is not "negotiable" and has from the beginning of time (Bible) been considered immoral. If push comes to shove, the temple will close.

It's possible that this law only applies to Denmark's state Lutheran churches... not sure though.

I think most European countries do not recognize Temple sealings as a marraige, which is why everyone I know of in Europe has a civil state recognized marriage then is sealed in the temple later that day, or the following day.

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
I would think it would be all the churches in Denmark but even if it isn't it will soon be. I think they are very liberal over there. Plus like the above post said it could be that Denmark as well follows the civil union first. But I'm sure in time they will be pushing to be sealed too.
It would be interesting if in fact they did have to conduct marriages of gays what the response would be. I don't necessarily think they will shut it down. Instead they will bend as they normally seem to be doing. However I hope and pray that is not the case.
Time will only tell.

I read the article and this WILL be a real test for the Church. This might just set a precedent that others might use to push their homosexual agenda.
This is totally funny for me personally because my in-laws just went over there on their mission. Can't wait to hear their stories about this subject. :ymdevil:

Everyone have no fear.
I have been told by someone within the Church structure that the Church is preparing to end marriages in all temples. Don't panic, relax. It's not catastrophic.
This is the part that we shall have no fear about. Marriage's are not the ordinance performed in the temple, it is the sealing portion that is the ordinance.
Sealings will continue to be performed thus allowing people to still be saved.
There will be an announcement in the future concerning this matter. Now that Prop 8 is headed to the Supremes this announcement could come within the next year.

Vision, are you saying that should this happen here in the U.S. everyone will have to be married civilly first and then will get sealed in the temple at another time (like they do in some other countries, such as England)? What about weddings that take place in our chapels? How will the Bishop be able to legally refuse to marry a same-sex couple in the church building?

The Church will no longer perform marriages of any kind period. You are spot on. Couples will get married civilly and then get sealed at a later date. This will be Church wide.

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
So the Church will just hand over what was once only a religious rite (marriage) entirely to government and government regulation?
It is true that when push comes to shove people either turn to God or government. Is there any counterbalancing trend of people turning to God -- in any way?

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
If the Temple is ever discrased in this manner I have no doubt that it will be destroyed. The Lords house is the most sacred place and it will not be defiled. Remember that the Lord is in charge and have faith that the church will not fall or compromise on our most sacred things. People on the other hand are only human and may fall and comprimise but the Church will not!
I'm not sure what kind of information you are privied to Vision, but if you were indeed told something in confidence you should respect the person/persons who told you and not spread it around before the church feels it should be announced. If there is something that members will need to know such as this, we will be informed in due time through the proper lines. I just think people should be careful what they say as to not start false rumors.
I'm not sure how it works but I don't think a person, like a bishop or a priest can be 'forced' to perform any marriage. If you run a chapel as a business that is probly a different story.
As far as I know the only people desiring to be married in an LDS church would be LDS members who have asked their bishop to perform the ceremony. If there are LDS members who are gay and desiring to be wed, they are unlikely to ask their bishop and not likely to be attending church. People tend to be in places that they are comfortable and where they feel accepted.

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
The Church will have no choice but to stop all marriage ceremonies.
It cannot marry gays, lesbians, transsexuals etc. and the only way out is to stop all marriages..
It at least buys the Church a few more years before they demand to be endowed and sealed.

The Church should be out of the business entirely of marriage anyway, and I have felt this for a while.Vision wrote:Everyone have no fear.

The real problem is, this law seems to indicate that gays can force their way in to be married in the buildings, regardless if a clergyman refuses to perform it.
That is the real problem, I think, that gays will force their way into the buildings with the force of government behind them, even if the Church stops performing marriages.
And that is the dangerous precedent for what will happen around the whole world, and why the Church may have to close some of the temples.
And... even if the Church can close the temple, can the government there force the Church to open it to allow a gay ceremony there and defile it?
I have felt for a long time that the gays mean to force their way into our buildings, especially ex-mo gays in our temples.

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
When a place is totally ripened in iniquity, it is destroyed, ie: the time of the flood, Sodom and Gomorah, Ammonihah.
How close are we to this? It seems that many places are getting closer and closer.
Another question: How soon before there is a total separation of the saints and the world? That seems to be getting a lot closer as well. However, I personally believe that the cleansing of the Lord's house has to take place first.

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
The scriptural definition of fulness of iniquity is not only how wicked the wicked are, but also, that the righteous are removed one way or another from among them.believer wrote:When a place is totally ripened in iniquity, it is destroyed, ie: the time of the flood, Sodom and Gomorah, Ammonihah.

So all the righteous would have to be either kicked out or leave or be killed in a certain a geographical area before the wicked are destroyed. The scriptural precedents for this conclusion are Ammonihah and Sodom and Gomorrah.
I don't think that the separation will come all at once, but that it will be at different times at different places.

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
Another thought concerning D&C 112:24-26:
"Behold, vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
"And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord;
"First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord."
I don't think gays will ever be allowed to marry in any of the temples by the church. But that doesn't mean a temple could not be defiled in some way. Remember the threats at the L.A. temple during the passing of Prop. 8 in Calif. The curse is written above. I would not want to be a recipient of any part of that curse.
We have been told that the church will again be persecuted. The gay issue could be one of the main issues that causes that persecution.

I was not told in confidence, in fact it was a group setting with 8-9 people present, so don't worry it's not a rumor, and don't worry you will be fine when the proper channels announce this and you can take it as divine revelation from the Lord then.
As far as the Temple being desecrated. Have you been to a Wasatch Front temple on a Saturday morning when the workers have to walk through the Celestial room and shush people for talking so loud. I have experienced this recently so IMO that some temples are already being desecrated every day.

Yes. You are right. Before a place that has ripened in iniquity is destroyed, the righteous will be gone, by either being chased out, killed, or leaving.

Re: Gays to be married in Denmark Temple?
From an LDS friend in Denmark
"Not al churches and religions in Denmark. Only the "Danske Folkekirke", in other words the state church in Denmark, the Lutheran Church, who are owned by the state. The priest there can refuse and ask the same sex couple to find another priest, who can make the ceremony in their church. Other churches and religions in Denmark are not required to do those kind of marriages - I think they didn't dare force them in fear of the muslims. So our church are not affected by it."

I feel like you are being a little condescending. I am not 'worried' and I am 'fine' :-\ - You shouldn't belittle people who do not immediately believe your words because you heard something they haven't. I believe as every other member should that if there is a major change in the church that the members, as a whole, will be told through the proper channels.
I know that temple workers etc are given instruction and taught things that the general membership is not. Is this meeting by chance a meeting you were in in the temple? I can see that happening.
No I have not been to the Wasatch Temple, I do not live in Utah. Every one that I have been in has been very quiet and very respectful. I'm not sure the level of desecration that must take place before the Lord puts a stop to it. I just believe that since marriage is so sacred and the core of..well..everything, that the Lord would not permit the Temple to be desecrated in this manner.

Priests will still be able to exercise discretion on whether or not they will wed homosexuals.
Views of the legislation within the mainstream Evangelical Lutheran Church, to which about 80 percent of Danes belong, have been mixed. Polls suggest that between one-third and half of its priests are not willing to marry homosexuals.
The new law permits homosexual marriages in the Evangelical Lutheran Church as well as churches of other faiths, depending on those churches' own rules.
