jonesde, you are right. I am sending mixed messages, which was unintentional. Let me reread all the posts again tomorrow so that I can be more clear about which parts of whose posts I am addressing.

Try reading it again. Moroni didn't have a problem with people not supporting freedom or the Nephite armies, Moroni had a problem with people actually conspiring with the enemy... including some trying to take over the government who were conspiring with the Lamanites.

He didn't have a problem with people who refused to fight and he didn't force anyone to fight, he had a problem with people fighting against their own people in an attempt to join up with the enemy to kill or enslave their brethren.

It's a big difference.
Jonesde, this is correct. My post supporting Poltax's reply was only in agreeing that Captain Moroni was just and righteous, to put it in a nutshell. That's all. I could probably write a book about Captain Moroni's campaigns, and maybe I will in a blog series, but my time is limited right now. Just to reemphasize my point, Captain Moroni always allowed people to live and even join with his people under a covenant of peace. He always "ceased fire" when an enemy surrendered and covenanted to cause no more harm. Only those who would rather "conquer" or "perish" were executed as commanded by the Lord, which I previously supported with scripture.

Thanks coachmarc, that makes it more clear. Moroni is an excellent example of clearly handling some tricky circumstances. It's unfortunate that some try to use his good example as an excuse to do bad things and harm innocent people.

Whoever would use Captain Moroni's good example as an excuse to do bad things and harm innocent people do not understand the laws, politics and especially the various circumstances under which Capatain Moroni acted. Mormon, who abridged this record understood very clearly and was so inspired by Captain Moroni and his intelligence, insight and relationship with God that, in my opinion, he named his own son after him.
