It isn't nice to call names.

Post by SmallFarm »

The Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have done unto you."
The Words of Christ: "What you do unto the least of my brethren, you have done unto me."

I have noticed an alarming trend on the LDSFF. There is a growing lack of respect for our fellows and their own personal beliefs. This is illustrated by the growing use of derogatory nicknames, such as "snufferite", "paulista", and "romneyite". I have myself been tempted to retaliate with my own derogatory nicknames, which I assure you are much more creative and condescending, but I digress.
I have made a suggestion in the apporpriate thread that use of these terms be directly addressed in the forum rules, but until the choice has been made by Brian whether or not to do so, I would like to point out to you all where it is a violation of the forum rules (at least in my opinion) and ask you all to self govern yourself on this issue.
From the forum rules:
By participating on ldsfreedomforum.com, you agree to abide by the standards and rules of the forum as posted here.

All who can abide by these standards are welcome on the forum, Latter-day Saints and non-members alike. Discussion on this forum should be respectful and edifying, and should reflect honorably on our responsibility as stewards of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As disciples of Christ, may we reflect His example. May we take upon ourselves His name and stand as witnesses of Him at all times and in all places. Let us stand with Captain Moroni and others in proclaiming Liberty. "In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children". "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty" (2 Cor. 3: 17).

No apostate behavior. No evil speaking of the Lord's Anointed. Do not promote teachings that directly conflict with Church doctrine. These forums will not be used for personal advancement of any form, except in accordance with the purpose of this website and forum. If you disagree with someone, attack the message, not the messenger. Be respectful. No personal attacks, slander, libel, etc. No inappropriate sexual content.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. 24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. (King James Bible)

23 Woe unto you, romneyite. for ye pay tribute to a politician but you omitted the weightier matters of the constitution, NO FED, and OBAMA care, NDAA, TSA, communism ect.... 24. Ye that are blind and stain at "he is a member" and swallow the constitution does not matter.

are you going to report me now MR CIA, secret police?

Watching my husband fight the good fight in local politics to hold people accountable I am amazed at his thick skin, as name calling among other things are said to him. He lets it slide. He is an inspiration for me.

President Hinkley said - So many of us make a great fuss of matters of small consequence. We are so easily offended. Happy is the man who can brush aside the offending remarks of another and go on his way.

Why bring this up? Because in these last days we will be tested and tried. Neal A Maxwell in a talk entitled “Lest Ye Be Wearied and Faint in Your Minds” said:
Blessed are the meek for they shall not be easily offended, which is especially important, since “My people must be tried in all things, … and he that will not bear chastisement is not worthy of my kingdom.” (D&C 136:31.)

I have seen tons of threads that, if the words could have been put into pictures, this photo would match perfectly. The perfect reason why SmallFarm began this thread. Being civil to each other shouldn't really hurt, or even be impossible. Perhaps we should act like the disciples of Christ we profess to be?

betrayer, blabbermouth, canary, deep throat, double-crosser, fink, informant, narc, nark , rat, sneak, snitcher, source, squealer, stool pigeon, stoolie, tattler, tattletale, tipster, turncoat, weasel, whistle-blower, killjoy, sourpuss, lameo, informant, wimp, wuss, Aggie, and anything else you would call someone that claims superiority through principles of abasement and thinskinnery.

Maybe you could use a trip to primary to re-learn the basics. I made this thread to start a serious conversation about how it can be hurtful to castigate others with harmful namecalling... but whatever... [-(

I understand your message Bro. Its just that I have very little expectations on what I will find on an anonymous forum full of crazies like me. Look I have been solving all the worlds ills on this forum for about 5 years now and have been assigned a wide variety of titles and names clear down to a spawn of Satan (my personal favorite from my blood brother CHH) I have never once been offended by anyone here at any time. I know the realities of posting on a forum with all kinds of quirky personality types. I ought to know since mine is as quirky as anyones. Its just a place of enjoyment for me where I can bloviate to my hearts content and pretend that people actually give a rats behind about anything I might say. (which I know they don't) :-o Don't expect much and you will never be disappointed.

I've had a chance to relax a bit and realize that I was the one to take offense. :-$ I've been having a bad day, goats got out and ate all my young saplings I had planted last year. X(
In truth the main motivation in starting this thread wasn't that I had been personally offended by this childish tactic of name calling, but rather, that I wanted to point out that it is not a civilized method of debate and also a violation of the forum rules. I stand by that belief, until I am convinced otherwise, and will continue to report those I feel have clearly done so repeatedly. :ymcowboy:
P.S. I am sorry that I took offense.

No worries Bro. You sound like a very sincere guy. Just go kick those stubborn goats in the butt and you will feel better. ;)

Ouch! That wasn't nice! #-o In fact, that was worse than name-calling :ymsick:

FYI- "Snufferite" was first coined on this site by Brian, the site owner. He's the guy who makes and ultimately enforces his rules so I doubt you'll get far with any "ite" name being banned.

Be careful with those goats. They started jbalm's barn on fire! He hasn't been back since :(

So? Either he follows the rules of his forum or he doesn't. Doesn't mean I can't report a violation of said rules if that is what I believe to have happened.

By all means, report abuse. One thing though, the mods may do nothing. Look at BM. He's still here.

My advice is to block the ones that bug you. You should see my ignore list. It grows almost daily. LDS, Shmell-DS. A lot of folks here could use a lesson in manners & respect. :ymsigh:

I fully realize that the mods may not do anything, I gave up on trying to control what others do a long time ago.

The ability to have an ignore list is a blessing, isn't it?
