"God is no respector of persons."

Post by Thinker »

I keep seeing Mormon ads of people saying, "... and I am a Mormon" & wonder why the need for the exclusionary label.
I've often gotten labeled both "conservative" or "liberal" - which is funny because I'm neither.
I may believe in some ideas that are one or the other, but who I am is not limited to any one group's ideology.
I am a child of God! And God is love... beyond any limits I can try to come up with intellectually.

One cognitive distortion is "us verses them" mentality. It's the incorrect belief that we must divide ourselves into groups to enhance our sense of self-esteem. The extremes of labeling are what cause wars. People in groups can do more extreme evil than individuals can do alone. Think about the group that cried, "cruicify him!"... or gangs, or Nazis, or KKK. Tolle wrote, "A collective ego is usually more unconscious than the individuals that make up that ego... Nations not infrequently engage in behavior that would be immediately recongizable as psychopathic in an individual."

God is not Mormon, Buddhist, Muslim or Atheist. God is not African, Hispanic, Asian, Caucasian...
"God is no respector of persons." -Acts 10:34

“No Respecter of Persons”

By David Hanna and Steven Ostler

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.

The date was 9 June 1978, and the world had just heard President Spencer W. Kimball announce that a new revelation had been received.

“Witnessing the faithfulness of those from whom the priesthood has been withheld, we have pleaded long and earnestly in behalf of these, our faithful brethren, spending many hours in the upper room of the temple supplicating the Lord for divine guidance.

“He has heard our prayers, and by revelation has confirmed that the long-promised day has come when every faithful, worthy man in the Church may receive the holy priesthood. … Accordingly, all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color. …

"The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."
-Psalms 118:6-8

Most of my life, I've worried what others think of me, especially at church, when I was gossiped about or given dirty looks.
But also, at times when people made fun of me for believing in a man who "searched for treasures" & "slept with many women."

Nobody's perfect.
I know I've misjudged many.
Nobody loves unconditionally.
Ideally mothers do, but more often they don't.
More often they put their addictions (TV, food, religious cults, pleasing others...) above the love for their own children.
All things will fail (& all people will fail)... except charity, which is the pure love of Christ & endureth forever. -Moroni 7:47
This is why we're commanded to not have any gods before God, who is Love -1John 4:8.

Who I am is not limited to any judgement any ad or any person tries to label on me.
Who I am is a child of God & is beyond limits because God & all of his children are eternally progressing & in essence are eternal.
God sees no need to distinguish each other, based on race or religious affiliation. All of humanity - are chlidren of God.
