Why is it that the Holy Ghost...

Post by AGStacker »

is overwhelmingly felt when I listen to the words of Doctor Ron Paul?

Honest question. I believe anyone here on this site if they were to say that they have had a spiritual witness concerning Romney.

But in all honesty I have a very real spiritual confirmation of my support for Ron Paul.

So what is the disconnect here? I know that Romney supporters want to get America back on track. These feelings are good. I have no doubt about that at all! Here's where I believe the disconnect is. Those who support Romney see him as a good member of the Church. He was a successful businessman and is seen as being a good opponent to Obama. I wont deny his charisma although I think Paul has that too and I applaud Romney for sticking to his stance on gay marriage when the current president said he supported it. (All political of course) These feelings they have are good feelings and I believe the Holy Ghost could support them in these thoughts.

What I don't believe is if a person compared both Romney and Ron Paul that the Holy Ghost would say "Mitt". Why? Because Ron Paul has consistently defended the Constitution whereas in regards to the Constitution Romney is sub par in my opinion.

Honest thoughts?

And no, my manifestations aren't from another el Diablo.

I think much of it is from considering the principles involved - that the Holy Ghost is confirming those are true principles...

The difference comes down to the individual speaking about the principles (or maybe avoiding them)... It is possible to get good feelings about the subject matter discussed, while getting a "blah" feeling because of the person speaking...

Ron Paul happens to speak about them a lot more than Romney does, as well as his demeanor is more like the kindly grandfather/country doctor...while Romney is more of a polished GQ/corporate slickness that sometimes seems like a boy scout, but also talks like most politicians...and doesn't seem to offer any real change

Nothing good will come from this.

I think the question is sincere and even important. But I have been on this merry-go-round enough to know the scenery. ;)

Shadow, when you prayed about it and received stupor of thought...what were you praying about? The Constitutional principles? Dr. Paul's character? Would he make a good president? Would his policies be good for America & freedom, or would they ultimately do more harm (though maybe in a different way)? The Libertarian-type policies/following he has? The total free market approach? Would Mitt Romney be a better president? Does the Lord want Romney instead? Are we too far gone to have a chance to make any difference?

I am really interested in this, as the Constitutional principles he champions are good in and of themselves...which is where I think most people get the warm fuzzies from - the idea...

But other factors also must be taken into play (such as I listed above)....

The problem is he isn't always championing Constitutional principles....quite the opposite in some respects. Knowledge is power.

If I should continue to support him in his run for president.

"Knowledge divorced from faith is not only partial knowledge, it can
even be described as a new kind of ignorance." Hussain and Ashraf

I feel the same way as shadow. TP does not have a fulness of the truth. We might as well sup at the table of a protestant minister. RP has knowledge, does he possess true faith?

Alma 61:15: "the Spirit of God … is also the spirit of freedom which is in them" (emphasis added).

Moroni 10:5: "And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."

I think you feel the Spirit because Dr. Paul champions true freedom, which is a part of the Spirit of God, which testifies of all truth.

And it doesn't matter who speaks the truth (LDS or not).

This is particularly so regarding the cause of freedom.

The Spirit will testify to us about things that are true, regardless of the messenger.

Fair enough... many of us are also at that point....formerly red-hot for him, and now concerned that things might not be how we envisioned & hoped...
