A powerful tool for missionaries

Greetings from Texas!

I recently discovered this forum and have been enjoying and learning from the content. I want to share something that has been very effective in my missionary efforts.

I like to use the Book of Mormon to introduce the gospel. Here, in Texas, we live in what is known as the "Bible Belt". This part of the USA is populated with a great many people that put their faith in the Bible. As a general rule, they profess to accept the Bible and they derive their various doctrines from their own preferred subsets thereof.

However, all of them know of at least a few "nonbelievers", and they generally get quite excited at any news of evidence in support of the Bible.

When I get a chance for a gospel discussion with these folks, I like to help them understand that the Book of Mormon is a friend to the Bible, and that it proves the general accuracy and validity of the Bible's books and prophecies. It proves that (as a general rule) the ancient texts that we find in modern versions of the Bible have been accurately preserved, transcribed, and translated. It's the best evidence in the world for people that sincerely want to know whether or not the Bible is true.

I find that this "The Book of Mormon Proves the Bible" angle is a far more useful and uplifting approach than the "Book of Mormon Versus the Bible" argument that is widely promulgated.

Please take a look at my web page on this subject someday when you can spend an hour or so watching the 4 video clips. (Note that I have secured official permission from the Church to distribute the copyrighted video material over the Internet, and for its incidental use in homes and in support of lessons, etc. during church meetings.)

I am particularly hopeful that these video presentations may be used by proselyting missionaries from time to time, as they deem them to be appropriate with investigators. If you feel that they may be useful to a missionary, please feel free to share this information. I've personally had a lot of success with it.

I'd love to hear your commentary on this general subject, whether or not you have specific observations from the referenced videos.
