who is smarter -- Swedes or Utah folk?

Just compare:
When was fluoride implemented into Salt Lake County?

Fluoridation of public water systems began Oct. 1, 2003

and...
Sweden
"Drinking water fluoridation is not allowed in Sweden ... New scientific documentation or changes in dental health situation that could alter the conclusions of the Commission have not been shown." (G. Guzikowski, Chief Government Inspector, National Food Administration, Feb.28,'00.)

Obviously the Swedes.

Go to the Fluoride Action Network and see 50 Reasons to oppose fluoride.

Almost all large cities in the U.S. fluoridate their water, which isn't smart but on the flip side most small cities do NOT. I'm in Utah and our city doesn't add fluoride. It was brought up a few yrs ago but the "folk" told the few loud minority to get their own fluoride.

That is a point. I suppose you cannot judge the entire state by the politicians you have running Salt Lake. I have lived in Utah before and I was not impressed by most of the more powerful politicians.

We don't have fluoride. We are some of the few in Davis County without it.

That's where I just moved to. I'm thinking I might do what Jason did and take on the city and get them to get rid of it. Even though I don't drink or cook with it, it's still there when we shower and wash....
I know it has been fought before, so you may be able to find a group. It's pretty stupid to have it in the water. Can't people brush with fluoride or get treatments if they want it? But my dentist swears being a military brat is why I have great teeth. It might have contributed to my infertilitytout maybe I can recover what we spent in fertility treatments by saving on denture cream.

Yea, the shower is a killer because we breath in all the vapor and the fluoride is easily absorbed that way.

I have never lived in a city with fluoridated water. I have 8 healthy children and really good teeth. Just saying.

What city was that? I agree with the shower part...not only does your skin absorb it, but since its heated its also in the steam...and you actually breath it too. Not all cities post this info on their websites either. My understanding is that all cities in Utah or SLC counties use it, but what about Sanpete?

I'll check. Our water in Spring City comes from springs, which are abundant in this area (hence the name "Spring City" I've been told). I don't think they add fluoride, but will check.

Seems like people should start doing something about this. And it is ironic that politicians in Utah are either less concerned with the health of the people, or far less intelligent, than the leaders of China:

Oh...and a few other countries as well.

why are you even talking about counties, and water supplies?

guys, with all respects, you are a living generation of DNA that has been inward looking for over a century

its in the air, its infected from the drugs you ingest, the high sugar content foot you eat, the people you talk to, the newspapers you look at the pictures in, the tv shows you watch

with all sad respects, you are living in the most dumbed down nation on teh face of the earth
. even north koreans are more intelligent and smarter- they've just slaves of a different type

one nation under god has turned into one nation under the influence of one god

the united states of unconsciousness

17 pages justifying a mall.

trust me. there's not a person on this planet who would even feel inclined to answer the question. thats because we see it is utterly, totally redundant

song

and for those who can concentrate long enough here;s the lyrics

One nation

under God

has turned into

one nation under the influence

of one drug

[chorus:]

Television the drug of the Nation

Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

(2x)

T.V. it

satellite links

our United States of Unconsciousness

Apathetic therapeutic and extremely addictive

The methadone metronome pumping out

150 channels 24 hours a day

you can flip through all of them

and still there's nothing worth watching

T.V. is the reason why less than 10 per cent of our

Nation reads books daily

Why most people think Central Amerika

means Kansas

Socialism means unamerican

and Apartheid is a new headache remedy

absorbed in it's world it's so hard to find us

It shapes our mind the most

maybe the mother of our Nation

should remind us

that we're sitting too close to...

[Chorus:]

Television, the drug of the Nation

Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

(2x)

T.V. is

the stomping ground for political candidates

Where bears in the woods

are chased by Grecian Formula'd

bald eagles

T.V. is mechanized politic's

remote control over the masses

co-sponsored by environmentally safe gases

watch for the PBS special

It's the perpetuation of the two party system

where image takes precedence over wisdom

Where sound bite politics are served to

the fastfood culture

Where straight teeth in your mouth

are more important than the words

that come out of it

Race baiting is the way to get selected

Willie Horton or

Will he not get elected on...

[Chorus:] <

I can't believe what I just read. I guess it would be easier to live in America if we were all DRUNK! @-)

Newest Australian Fun Facts:
•Apparently the first European settlers in Australia drank more alcohol per person than any other community in the history of mankind.
•Australian mines (one of our most important industries, which accounts for 15% of Australia's GDP) cover 0.02% of Australia's land mass. More land is occupied by pubs. (Can't find any statistics on the GDP here. My guess is: substantial)
•In 1954 Bob Hawke made it into the Guinness Record Book: he sculled 2.5 pints of beer in 11 seconds. Bob Hawke went on to become the Prime Minister of Australia.

For the most part it is difficult to argue with that except to say it is like obesity. In the USA there are more fatties per 1000 than any other nation on earth (with the United Kingdom a close second) but you will also find the most physically fit per 1000 on earth. It is just that if you see a crowd of Americans the fatties block out the people who do exercise regularly. the point is, those who are informed and educated are a minority just as those who are physically fit are a minority.

Dentists here in Oklahoma love the folks who live on well water. It's not fluoridated and the hicks from the sticks don't brush with fluoride (well, with anything, really). It's a steady stream of cavities, root canals and meth mouth. But gall dang, thems folks look to be moar 'lectual than me!

Chasers is funny. Lots of great stuff, but anyone can cherry pick some interviews from idiots. It doesn't mean the whole country is that dumb--although it does feel like we're getting worse by the day. However, having just taught a class to a bunch of Aussie's, I can assure you, America is not alone. You're drinking kool aid if you think we have a monopoly on stupid; sometimes it seems like the whole world is running headlong towards it.

Anyway, here's another good one from chasers : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDIsOqq6 ... re=related" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Aussie - I am sad for you. You don't know what it is really like. As an American who moved a lot in my early years, the America I know is quite different from the ugly view you have. Get out of the mud, Aussie. You're going to ruin your health.

I grew up on well water and only got my first cavity at the age of 18.

Nobody is saying that you should not brush your teeth, are they? Seems that would be the important variable, not whether you have fluoride in the water. I would also add that a diet that is rich in minerals and leaves out high-sugar foods would be good as well. Maybe that is why Europeans tend to be okay in regards to dental health even though fluoride is either judged as dangerous at worse, or not proven to be beneficial at best.

You know, I used to hang out in places that had lots of hippies since I am a total nature lover. Those people try to be organic as possible and I rarely saw an obese herbal person. If only they were not so caught up in the environmentalist dogma of population reduction and would have lots of kids at least that would be good for the gene pool as today's lifestyle seems to be associated with higher infertility.

You have studies that say fluoride in drinking water is bad and your guts will rot, and studies that say fluoride in drinking water is good and promotes good oral health, when otherwise it wouldn't happen. Who's right? You can't go by a scientist's word alone, or can you? This all boils down to the selective listening each of us tunes into. We have itching ears to hear what we think is right. Same with everything. Global warming, 9/11, chemtrails, GMO, moon landing, Han shot first, etc.

Using myself as a data point (yes, hardly scientific rigor), I know fluoride does fantastic things to tooth enamel to make it last far longer than you will be alive. It hardens it against cavities and decay. However they tell you on the toothpaste and prescription strength gel, "Don't swallow this concentration of fluoride, you dingbat!" But I also have had exactly zero problems drinking municipal water in Virgina, Utah, Oklahoma, Washington, wherever. Yah flouride is frickin' toxic as all get out in pure form, but what isn't? Dilution rates matter in this case, and I'm open to learning exactly what goes on in tap water that has a statistically significant impact on the population.

As a sidebar, in my experience, Europeans (Czech, French, English, Spaniards) have downright awful oral health. But who knows why that is. I'm not going to speculate.
