By the way it has not been proven that man did set foot on the moon. The radiation alone would of killed them within hours of being exposed...
True! The one big part of the lie that hasn't been answered yet (and likely never will).

What is being discussed here is whether or not Holi-days are good and right, or harmful and misleading. The real issue is Holy Days, those commanded to be kept by Adonia. I was aware of that scripture in Jeremiah in the early 90's, in my studying of how to keep the High Feasts. That scripture [Jeremiah 10] is quite clear:

1 Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2 Thus saith the Lord, LEARN NOT THE WAY OF THE HEATHEN, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 For the CUSTOMS OF THE PEOPLE ARE VAIN: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
(Jeremiah 10:1-5, Capitalization and Comments in [Brackets] Added)

Adonia could not be clearer on this subject, unless your not of Yesrael. How about keeping those Holy Days commanded in the scriptures and stop keeping the Holidays which are vain and the ways of the Heathens? Should we not be a Peculiar People... valiant Sons and Daughters of the Most High G_d?

Shalom

I don't believe there is anything wrong with a tree in the house - if you want to make sure you are worshiping the way Christ would want you to do you may try this - we have stopped most of the presents, we give one gift to each other, then yes they still get stockings (from mom & dad - we don't get them a gift and yes it's a large stocking LOL) - our main focus is the 12 days of Christmas, we spend all of our time in doing for others for those 2 weeks before Christmas and my kids said those were the best years ever. They don't really care about presents when they experience the joy of giving to others.

I believe that God has been more than clear on the issue. Consider parts of the 10 commandments:
I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:2-6)
So, God is clear. No images of anything. Are we willing to follow Him? I am sometimes. But unfortunately, the first step to repentance is recognizing there is a problem. Most of the time, people work hard to prevent the recognition. The Pharisees in Christ's time are a good, extreme example of this, in that they concluded that God must die, rather than admit that they should change to follow Him.

I used to wonder why supreme court justices had such a difficult time reading the 2nd amendment (for example), but religious people have a similar problem understanding basic passages of scripture. Neither want it to say what it says.

We have the freedom to make the Christmas tree and Santa a symbol of anything we choose. One of our most recent prophets addressed this issue and said Christmas trees are fine. That is good enough for me.

Classic example of looking beyond the mark. The Jehovah's witness that came by recently also wanted to tell me not to get any blood transfusions. Its right there in the Bible you know.. ;)

I agree, Mark. And the frustrating part is that if I share what I think is true there will be a handful of people who take my position as mocking or scorning, so I don't even feel free to share it! Now I know how the puritans gained such influence.

Suffice it to say I think Christmas trees are a beautiful reminder of Christ during the Christmas season and these scriptures are being twisted.

Apparently the Brethren don't read that passage the same way you do.

The Christmas tree became a symbol of Jesus Christ after he visited the lost tribes of Israel in the north and it was explained to them that he had won their salvation for them on a tree. So wanting to remember that expression of love and work on the tree came the tradition today of the Christmas tree.

The Catholic Assembly corrupted the Nordic Holy Day of Weihnachten by asserting that it had something to do with Jesus' birthday.

When Jesus Christ set up Weihnachten he told them that it's purpose was for year end accounting and new year planning, as they worked for his purpose throughout the year. Weihnachten is the ending of the Fourth Quarter and the beginning of the First Quarter for those who live by the Law. Jesus Christ also set up the other three major Holy Days for the Nordic lost tribes of Israel: Easter is for First Quarter accounting and General Conference. Mid-Summer is for Second Quarter accounting and Stake Conference. All-Hallows is for Third Quarter accounting and the Semi-annual General Conference. Then back to Weihnachten, and the accounting is done for the entire year, and for Ward/Stake Conference. This is the way they did things in Scandinavia for centuries in their Companies, Wards, Shires, Commonwealths and Church.

Weihnachten is the New Year for the people who live by the Law. And for those who live by the Law everything is about keeping your eye single to the glory of God.

Here is an audio clip that helps explain this:

Bruce Wydner wrote:
“What of the Christmas tree?”

Odin won the Salvation of his People hanging on a “tree.” (In Robin Hood’s day the people of the Danelaw of England were still using the expression “by him who hung on the tree,” used so frequently in the “Ballad of Robin Hood,” rather than thinking of a “cross.”)

The glorious lights on the tree refer to the glorious gifts he won for his people in his struggle for them on the tree. Odin’s followers felt that it was an “evergreen” tree, perhaps, in part, because the tree in the mild Mediterranean climate used to make the cross didn’t shed its leaves like North European trees do.

That they felt that tree was the Holly tree is explicit.

The name, “Holly” means, “Holy” in Old English.

The “Holly wreath” with its spines and red berries signified the crown of thorns and drops of the Lord’s blood. (For this, refer to “the Ghost of Christmas Present,” in Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” where the jolly giant, “Father Christmas,” wears a holly wreath around his head like the Savior wore his “Crown of Thorns.”

The custom of the burning of the “Yule log” could be related to these other concepts of the “tree.” Lastly, the etymology of the ancient Scandinavian word “Yule” seems to be a derivative of, “Jute,” as the Danish word for their, “Jut-land,” (from the name, “Jute”) is pronounced, “Yule-land.”
Bruce Wydner wrote:THE CUSTOMS OF LAW

For a long while thereafter the different crafts of the Germanic peoples always maintained temples, such as those he established, to help their members to forward the Purpose of Law. The Masons have theoretically preserved that practice down to this day.

“You say that Snorri Sturlusson of Iceland said that this man established ALL of the folk customs thereafter observed by the Germanic race?”

One custom that he established may suffice. He established the custom of a holiday of twelve days to begin the new work year, beginning on mid-winter night at the winter solstice. He called this celebration the “Yuletide” and kept it by taking a sleigh full of gifts, that was drawn by reindeer, around to different places in Sweden for nice people who had kept his Law. Iceland’s Snorri Sturlusson also tells us that he could fly, calm the ocean in tempest, heal the sick and resurrect people to life again from out of their graves. He is the “Father Christmas” of the English-speaking Peoples, called “Santa Claus” in the USA.

“I have often wondered if Santa Claus has anything to do with Jesus. Hmm.”
God Bless,

I think it's important to clarify that there is a difference between symbols and idols. If people were worshipping any of the symbols of Christmas, including setting up the nativity in a way that is shrine like, I think that is wholly different than having symbolic reminders of spiritual events.
