Where is heaven?

Post by NoGreaterLove »

Where is heaven? Let's take a look at God's definition of heaven as it pertains to our earth.

Abraham 4:
1And then the Lord said: Let us go down. And they went down at the beginning, and they, that is the Gods, organized and formed the heavens and the earth.
6And the Gods also said: Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and it shall divide the waters from the waters.
7And the Gods ordered the expanse, so that it divided the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so, even as they ordered.
8And the Gods called the expanse, Heaven. And it came to pass that it was from evening until morning that they called night; and it came to pass that it was from morning until evening that they called day; and this was the second time that they called night and day.
9And the Gods ordered, saying: Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the earth come up dry; and it was so as they ordered;
10And the Gods pronounced the dry land, Earth; and the gathering together of the waters, pronounced they, Great Waters; and the Gods saw that they were obeyed.

So we have four items here.
1. Clouds or water above the earth
2. Heaven which is below the clouds, but above the earth
3. Earth the place where the dry land appeared when the lower waters were gathered together in one place.
4. Great waters which is the gathering together of the lower waters into one place.

So where is heaven? Between the waters (Clouds) and the earth and great waters (seas).
Now take another look at Revelations and apply what we have learned.

D&C 129
1There are two kinds of beings in heaven, namely: Angels, who are resurrected personages, having bodies of flesh and bones—

2For instance, Jesus said: Handle me and see, for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

3Secondly: the spirits of just men made perfect, they who are not resurrected, but inherit the same glory.

I am in no way saying this is the only Heaven that exists. But I am trying to open our minds to the fact that Heaven is also here on earth.

NGL, great post. I will wholeheartedly agree with you on this. It is section 130:5 speaking about belonging, and verse 9 in conjunction with 3Nephi 12:5 that say to me this earth is where all being born here belong. We know when we die the spirit world is here, and these verses say the Celestial Kingdom is here. As for the other kingdoms, I cannot be sure, but they could exist on anther plane/dimension, but as the church does not preach it, I don't think it matters. What does matter is all the righteous are born here, live in spirit paradise here, and inherit Celestial Glory here.

As for the residence of the Father in his heaven, follow the pattern and it would suggest that he resides on the planet where he was born, then that planet was taken out of a mortal, veiled portion of the universe, back into a celestial orbit where celestial worlds reside. Sorry if this got out of line too fast. That is how I see it.

I think we are in agreement, that there are different heavens being talked about here.

heaven: the atmosphere between the earth and outer space.
heaven: that portion of the spirit world called paradise.
Heaven: the celestial orb upon which Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ currently reside.

Or... where is Kolob? And why are Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ there right now? Did we live there as spirits? If we did, why do we have to move from celestial Kolob to (eventual) celestial Earth?

Do pre-mortal spirits live on a spirit earth near the Father, or live on his resurrected planet (sun) in everlasting burnings? For some reason, I always over-simplify it and apply rigid rules such as, resurrected beings live on resurrected planets, mortals live on mortal (fallen) planets (not yet resurrected), and spirits live on spirit planets (not yet embodied). The thought of being born and growing up on our Father's very planet in everlasting burnings surely sounds better, but can spirits live on resurrected planets?

In my mind, I also presume we did not live on the spirit realm of this earth, that seems designated as the post-mortal spirit world, as BY taught. I yearn to know more about our pre-mortal life, what it was like, and where it exactly was. So little is revealed...

KoZ: Resurrected glorified Beings: Gods, their wives, and women servants.

3 Secondly: the spirits of just men made perfect, they who are not resurrected, but inherit the same glory.

KoZ: Fourth Estate Beings!

This post might be dead already, but I thought since I had some input I'd give it. Moses 1:37 states there are many heavens.

And the Lord God spake unto Moses, saying: The heavens, they are many, and they cannot be numbered unto man; but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine.

That seems to corroborate what mes5464 said. Also, to add to that, I believe that any place that holds saved beings (those who have been baptized and accept Christ) would be in a type of heaven as well. Those who make it to the Terrestrial or Telestial realm would be living in a heaven as well. As God states here, there are innumerable heavens. I just read that the other day and it stuck with me. Just my thought.

Amon! The Millennial world will be and is heaven to most people who go there.
